Peter Doherty è la rock star anglosassone più nota degli ultimi 10 anni, un musicista di successo come pochi che ha saputo rinnovare il suono inglese e influenzare decine di brit band che hanno seguito le orme di The Libertines e Babyshambles. Prima con i Libertines, poi con i Babyshambles e oggi con i suoi lavori da solista Peter Doherty ha segnato una nuova via, e modo di comunicare con i fan. Giovane, ribelle e dotato di grande talento è riconosciuto come uno dei più influenti artisti internazionali odierni. Peter Doherty nel 2012 pubbicherà il nuovo album solista, seguito del bellissimo ‘Grace/Wastelands’ pubblicato nel 2009 per la EMI. L’album del debutto solista dell’ex leader dei Libertines è stato registrato con l’aiuto del leggendario Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur), e conta importanti collaborazioni in studio con Graham Coxon, ex chitarrista dei Blur, e del resto dei componenti dei Babyshambles. Alla sua uscita ‘Grace/Wastelands’ ha convinto tutti, critica e pubblico, e aumentato le attese per il nuovo album solista. Quattro anni fa con il loro esordio ‘Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters’ i Twilight Sad hanno fatto parlare di se come di una promessa della scena indie post-rock britannica, mentre due anni fa hanno confermato le forti aspettative su di loro con l’ottimo album ‘Forget the Night Ahead’. Sempre su Fat Cat records i Twilight Sad stanno uscendo con il terzo album ‘No One Can Ever Know’, dove il suono del gruppo si è evoluto verso nuove prospettive stilistiche. Tra Editors ed Interpol ma con i Mogwai nel cuore, il quartetto di Kilsyth, vicino Glasgow, ha pubblicato album sempre migliori. Il nuovo ‘No One Can Ever Know’ ha potuto contare sul lavoro in studio di Andrew Weatherall (dj e producer di fama mondiale, membro dei Two Lones Swordsmen e già al lavoro con Primal Scream, Happy Mondays e New Order), ed il suono cupo e noise della band ne ha beneficiato dando loro un accento più elegante, vicino alla poetica dei Depeche Mode di ‘Songs of Faith And Devotion’. Nel nuovo lavoro il quartetto scozzese decide per un album potente, smorzato da toni wave di sapore morriseiano. Le esperienze in tour con i Mogwai hanno insegnato tanto ai Twilight Sad,in cu si sente distintamente anche il sapore dei Gravenhurst più convincenti, degli Echo and the Bunnymen e la potenza ipnotica dei My Bloody Valentine. I Twilight Sad sono maestri nell’alternare quiete e rumore, mettendo in moto sfuriate elettriche e barriere di suono tipiche della scena shoegaze anglosassone. Pregio della band e il modo in cui smorzano la tempesta di feedback elettrici con atmosfere eleganti e sulfuree dove a farla da padrone è la voce di James Grahan. Dal vivo hanno suonato nei più importanti festival del mondo e con band di caratura internazionale, oltre ad essere adorati all’estero come poche altre band inglesi (Pitchfork ha incensato ogni loro uscita discografica). I TWILIGHT SAD saranno in Italia ad Aprile per presentare il nuovo album ‘No One Can Ever Know’, in uscita il 7 Febbraio tramite Fat Cat / Self / Spin-Go. Harold Boué aka Abstraxion is a french London based producer. His two previous singles on Different Recordings, Jus’ Acid and Jaipurs Elephant were supported by Andrew Weatherall, Erol Alkan and Brodinski to name but a few. Harold explains his idea behind this new track,’The word Moribayasa comes from Guinea, it’s a dance for a woman who has overcome a great adversity. The idea was to create hypnotic and psychedelic music that makes the body dance. Something that is pulled from deep inside to create a chant, from darkness to light. A kind of a shamanic experience.’ The stellar remix package comes courtesy of Argy, DJ Kaos and Brioski Argy says of his remix – “When I heard the original for the first time it was clear to me which part i was going to use as i immediately fell in love with that industrial sounding lead sound that Abstraxion wrote. My idea was to build a bridge between old school NY Warehouse beats and a more futuristic Berghain aesthetic. Something that could have been made 10 years ago or 10 years later in the future.” Dj Kaos on his Re – Edit says – “I just stripped down the original mix! I had a feeling that it works better with less elements going on. The original mix is great too but for my taste and club experience its just too much going on, too much building. I just looped two parts of the song and build new rhythm parts snares, claps, hi hats very simple and functional. The mix works amazing!.’ And finally Brioski says of his remix of ‘Alter Echoes’, ‘I wanted to add a funk touch with the inclusion of slap bass. I wanted to keep the Abstraxion sound synthetic, developing my remix with analogue sound, some percussion, mystic riffs and at times psychedelic.’ The video for the single promises to be suitably rhythmic and shamanic.

“It’s funky, it’s hip-hop, it’s disco and it’s classic.” This is De La Soul’s Plug 1 & Plug 2 present ‘First Serve’; a dynamic hip-hop group, an album, a concept, the soundtrack to a movie that has yet to be made and a fable for our times. ‘First Serve’ is many things, but at its heart it is the story of two young boys from Queens, New York with big dreams and larger rhymes. Two friends, Deen Whitter (aka Plug 2 / Dave) and Jacob ‘Pop Life’ Barrow (aka Plug 1/ Pos), friends from seventh grade, are by their own admission, “different, but the differences seem to complement everything we do.” Their name ‘First Serve’ comes from their motto, “First come, First Serve, get what you deserve.” Years on the hustle, laying down demos and mixtapes in Deen’s mother’s basement sees them eventually taken under the wing of a flamboyant reformed coke dealer Ken Du, who took the position as their manager, and shopped their blend of hip-hop around.

The first instalment of this story is the jocular single ‘Must B The Music’, released on 26th March 2012 via PIAS Recordings. An upbeat, fresh track that finds the balance of a modern sound with an old school feel that nots to Hip-Hop flair from the late 70’s through the mid 90’s and beyond. Adding to the single are remixes from Zed Bias, Yuksek and Mr Chop amongst others, all showing the wide musicality of this exciting album project. Check out the video teaser here:

This album was made with the acclaimed French production team 2 & 4 (aka Chokolate & Khalid) who themselves first met through their love of turntablism. The album concept starts with their story: to fulfil their shared dream of recording a live hip-hop record. To do this they roped in the legendary De La Soul boys who created their alter egos Deen and Jacob for their part in this alternate reality. The four of them set about putting their hip-hop fable together in Paris, putting the producers’ live beats and electro flavours to the duo’s rhymes. The end result is a high-spirited, hilarious journey of hip-hop, skits, and beats where all the action takes place is a hyper-colour, animated world.

From the ‘Opening Credits’ through to tracks like the funky euphoric ‘We Made It’, the story follows our heroes’ original success, through the darkly-hung, break-up ode of ‘Clash Symphony’ to their eventual, tender reunion on the irresistible ‘Tennis’ and the call-and-response show finale, ‘Move ‘Em In, Move ‘Em Out’ – Deen and Jacob find themselves “bound together with a handshake, not a contract.” and we can all take something from the message that threads the tale of ‘First Serve’ together.

New single released Feb 13 2012 and UK Album Tour February / March 2012
Feb 13th sees the release of the lead single from The Twang’s forthcoming third studio album entitled 10:20

The single, ‘We’re A Crowd’, was penned during a writing session in Summer 2011 as the UK riots were kicking off ten minutes from the studio door. Although not directly written about the riots the intensity of the situation has definitely bled through into the song but the anger of the summer is refocused into what positives can be achieved when people stand up together. ‘We’re A Crowd’ is backed with two brand new Twang original bsides, ‘Y.O.Y’ and ‘Heart To Heart’. ‘Y.O.Y’ may or may not be about a massive ding dong between bassist Jon Watkin and guitarist Stu Hartland which ultimately saw Stu leave the band. Of course, it could also be about two friends having a drunken argument! The video for ‘We’re A Crowd’ can be seen here:

To celebrate the forthcoming single and album The Twang tour the UK again in February and March 2012 and continue the now familiar Twang theme of playing weekend shows wherever they can. As Phil Etheridge, lead singer, explains. “Twang shows have always been more like a party than a gig. I DRAGONFORCE RIVELANO I DETTAGLI DEL NUOVO ALBUM

I DRAGONFORCE hanno finalmente reso noti i dettagli del loro nuovo album. Intitolato ‘The Power Within’, il quinto disco della band di stanza a Londra, vede il debutto del nuovo cantante Marc Hudson. Il chitarrista dei DragonForce Herman Li ha dichiarato: “Non abbiamo mai passato due anni così divertenti nel realizzare un album. Nel comporre, jammare e suonare dal vivo insieme abbiamo costruito questa incredibile energia, energia che è stata completamente catturata nel nuovo disco”. “Questa volta abbiamo davvero portato in superficie il nostro lato metal e creato la migliore musica della nostra carriera. Punk Rock Bowling was started back in 1999 as a way to bring the independent music community together for an annual party. It has since grown into a 3 day festival in downtown Las Vegas that brings out fans and bands alike from all over the world. Make no mistake, this is a PUNK ROCK festival that features some of the best bands over the past 35+ years, from the old school pioneers and classics to mainstays and up and comers. Founders Shawn and Mark Stern of BYO Records and seminal SoCal band Youth Brigade have been heavily involved in the PUNK ROCK community since the late ‘70’s and spend countless hours scouring their record collections, memories and abilities to reach out to old friends and new to put together an amazing line-up every year. This is a 3 day outdoor festival starting in the late afternoon and featuring 8 great bands each day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday celebrated with 5,000 of your close personal punk rock friends. And if that’s not enough, their will be 4 late night club shows each night in smaller more intimate surroundings featuring more great bands as well as some special surprises. All in all, over 60 bands will perform throughout the weekend.

Most of our hotels will be located downtown this year. Punk Rock Bowling has struck a deal with some of the best hotels in the downtown area. Our main hotel will be the Golden Nugget, while the pool party hotel will be the Gold Spike. Our budget hotel is the Las Vegas Club.
BOWLING:
The tournament is expanding! In an effort to accommodate more bowlers and to eliminate night bowling, for the first time PRB will be bowling in two different locations. Buses will be provided to shuttle bowlers to each bowling alley from downtown. If you want to bowl, you have a great chance this year since we are expanding. Code Orange Kids have a lot going on right now. Henry Rollins Spoken Word: cambio location per la data di Milano

Annunciamo oggi il cambio location per la data di Milano dello Spoken Word ‘The Long March’, presentato da Henry Rollins in un tour europeo che toccherà l’Italia per due imperdibili eventi il 15 e il 16 febbraio. Per motivi logistici, dovuti a esigenze tecniche, l’evento verrà spostato a una distanza di 5 minuti a piedi dalla precedente location, presso il Teatro Sala Fontana in via Gian Antonio Boltraffio 21, in modo da poter ottimizzare la visione dello spettacolo da parte di tutto il pubblico. Il primo appuntamento con l’icona della filosofia hardcore punk si svolgerà quindi a pochissimi passi dal’Alcatraz, location in cui era inizialmente previsto l’evento. A causa dei limitati posti a sedere rimasti, consigliamo l’acquisto dei biglietti al più presto e comunichiamo che i biglietti acquistati in precedenza, e con la dicitura Alcatraz, rimangono validi. With an ear for volume Brew took note of a new band creating a significant impact on the UK underground scene. Nero, one of the biggest names in dance music, release their brand new single ‘Must Be The Feeling’ which will be a double A side with ‘Innocence’ on 5th March. ‘Must Be The Feeling / Innocence’ is the fifth release to be taken from their #1 album ‘Welcome Reality’ and follows hit singles ‘Reaching Out’, ‘Me & You’, ‘Guilt And The #1 Smash Promises’.

Ahead of the release of the single, they have called in Ram Records duo Delta Heavy on remix duties, which is now available as a free download. The production duo keep the 80s vibe of the original in tact while flipping it into a heaving 4×4 dance floor cut. ‘Must Be The Feeling’, released on Chase & Status’ label MTA Records, pivots on an 80s sample by a Detroit disco teen diva called Carmen, the result of Nero “scouring the internet for rare boogie tracks”. ‘Innocence’, originally released in April 2010, climbed to number 16 and 11, respectively, on the Dance and Independent charts and has become a massive live favourite. This year has been an incredible year for Nero – they are the only British dance act of 2011 to have a #1 album and ‘Promises’ was the first ever UK dubstep #1 single. Nero were nominated for Best New Act at the prestigious Q Awards last year. The band played some of the UK’s biggest festivals this summer including Glastonbury, Bestival, Reading and Wireless to name a few, as well selling out their first headline UK tour in October, which included a show-stopping performance at the Electric Ballroom. “I think dubstep is a natural progression of hip-hop,” says Sen Dog. “Especially the way that we formulated it with Rusko, there’s definitely some roughness to it.” “We’ve always been the type of group to take chances on doing something radically different than what people expect from us. So this carries with the tradition of us going out of the box. If it’s not something that we embrace then we don’t dare mess with it and this is something we fell right into the pocket of,” adds B-Real. The EP was recorded over a six-month period, with Rusko joining Cypress in the studio for part and sending tracks over email when his crazy touring schedule restricted him from being there in person. “It excited me so much when I received the acappellas because sometimes I’d been away for a week and I’d finally get a Wi-Fi connection,” says Rusko. “The excitement would keep me awake all night feverishly working on the track.” As you’d expect from chameleonic musicians, each song showcases a different musical side to the collaborators. “Lez Go” marries the ominous with the atmospheric, as Cypress’ menacing vocals somehow sound angelic over Rusko’s harmonious, arpeggiated synths. The up-tempo, high-energy vibe of ‘Roll It, Light It’ and ‘Stay Medicated’ are club anthems, while ‘Here From Day One’ sees Damian Marley bring a dancehall feel over a slicing, metallic beat. “Last winter our band was involved in a terrible van accident while on tour in Kentucky. In result our vocalist Brian Calzini was hospitalized and had to undergo surgery. When we wrecked we completely totaled our van and trailer. We lost some minor equipment but the HUGE loss was our transportation. Through out the next few months we were able to save up and buy a used van. We were unable to afford a new trailer so for the past year we have been mot been able to bring lots of necessities on the road with us with out having a trailer. Most of our equipment we are can’t bring with us and it gives our band lots of restrictions. We are coming to you today in desperation asking for help. We are asking for $1,500 dollars to help us buy a used trailer. Sono passati pochi mesi dalle recenti date da tutto esaurito dei The Subways, e sembra ieri che Billy, Josh e Charlotte saltavano e si scatenavano suonando in un Tunnel Club e un Apartamento Hoffman stracolmi. E’ quindi un’evoluzione naturale, quanto gradita, il loro ritorno in Italia il prossimo luglio, in occasione del Rock Im Ring Festival che si terrà a Collabo, in provincia di Bolzano. I SUBWAYS sono tre ragazzi semplici: batterista e cantante sono fratelli, e la bassista suona con loro fin dagli esordi. Freschi dei festeggiamenti per il trentennale della carriera, i The Toasters sono pronti per una nuova tournée che toccherà l’Italia in un’unica data il prossimo 27 aprile, al Leoncavallo di Milano. Spesso abbreviati semplicemente con Toasters, sono una band ska statunitense, sulle scene dal 1981 anno in cui Robert “Bucket” Hingley, chitarra e voce, decide di formare una band sui generi in levare. E fu così che, nel Lower East Side di Manhattan, si accese una scintilla ben presto diventata esplosione ska nella scena musicale americana e, successivamente, mondiale. Il sound 2tone venne così ridefinito da un gruppo di ragazzi indisciplinati della grande mela, che strizzano l’occhio allo stile classico british anni ’70, unito al punk rock dell’East Side, pronti a raccogliere il patrimonio lasciato in eredità da band come The Specials, The Selecter, The Beat e Madness. 30 anni, 9 album in studio, oltre 5000 concerti dopo, i Toasters sono ancora pronti ad incendiare il loro pubblico con quella scintilla iniziale, con una serie di concerti nei club di tutto il mondo. Ed è con questo spirito che, nonostante alcuni cambi di line up, i “nostri” sono stati anche menzionati all’interno della categoria “CBGB’s 20 core band” eletta da Clear Channel Radio, affianco a nomi illustri come i Ramones, una delle band più apprezzate dai Toasters stessi. Ma non sono i titoli guadagnati o le riviste patinate ad interessare la band, quanto il proprio pubblico: “Nulla può eclissare le vibrazioni che trasmette uno show sold out, faccia faccia con il tuo pubblico e con il bit tra i denti” sono le parole del frontman Robert “Bucket” Hingley e proprio a tal fine la band ha intrapreso tour in tutto il mondo senza dimenticare le periferie meno battute solitamente da artisti del genere. Torneranno in questo inizio 2012, on the road per numerosissimi concerti che toccheranno gli Stati Uniti tra gennaio e febbraio, per poi approdare in Europa nei mesi successivi e in Italia ad aprile.
