Victor Talking Machine
New Single – ‘Tuscany’
Released 14th May 2012
Line-up changes can be discouraging for an unsigned band, but not for Victor Talking Machine. With previous members leaving, being kicked out, or dying, Frontmen Ricky Clark (Eyes: Green, Hair: Dark Brown, Height: 6”) and Stephen Smith (Hazel, Black, 6”1) met at university in North London and developed a bond through mirrored musical influences. With the recent addition of Mathew Turner (Blue, Light Brown, 5”11) on bass and George Latham (Blue, Dark Brown, 5”10) on drums, the band are already gaining a reputation on the London live circuit – Victor Talking Machine have spent the first 4 months of their existence playing alongside kindred spirits in Fanzine, Echo Lake, KVB and Sulk and are consistently providing roller-coaster live performances packed full of melodic pop music reminiscent to that of Teenage Fanclub, Weezer and Pavement – who are cited as influences for the group. Victor Talking Machine release their debut single ‘Tuscany’ on May 14th, digitally available worldwide through Silver Music/IDOL. A limited pressing of physical copies will be available in later in the month. ‘Tuscany’ is slacker pop with an emphasis on the chorus, glorious fuzz and melody, driven by an evocative rhythm section, along-side Stephen Smith and Ricky Clark’s distribution of vocal duties combine as a catalyst to create refreshing British guitar pop.
Collaborating with Marc Waterman, producer for Elastica, Ride and Ash in the 90’s, meant that the group could share a vision in creating a distinctly British angle on guitar pop music – with added influences and twists to give way for the sound of Victor Talking Machine. Recorded live with very few overdubs, the forthcoming singles ‘Tuscany‘ and follow up single ‘Had Enough’ are records that show a band on their way to capturing hearts with honesty and freshness.

True to their self prophetic genre-less guise of anything and everything between 110-174 bpm, the last 6 months have seen Delta Heavy filling in the gap between their last Ram release and new EP ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’ with the completion of extensive tours of Australia, USA, Canada & Europe as well as churning out an array of multi genre remixes for Emalkay, Adam F, The Fixers and a speaker destroying remix of Maverick Sabre’s ‘Used To Have It All’. The latter has been hailed with continuous support from nearly every DJ at Radio 1 and has been championed by Annie Mac on her pivotal Friday night show for 5 weeks and counting, while their recent remix of Rita Ora’s ‘R.I.P’ has dominated airwaves and dance floors globally. By most producers schedules, this would seem enough for the first few months of the year, but arguably their most significant move to date came in the form of their rework of Nero’s ‘Must Be The Feeling.’ An infectious 110bpm anthem that was given away by Nero and Delta Heavy for free, it so far has had over 130,000 downloads, over 2 million views on UKFMusic alone and has undoubtedly confirmed Delta Heavy’s place at the top table of bass music. Following on from their last release was no easy task. ‘Overkill / Hold Me’ held simultaneous number 1 spots on Trackitdown drum and bass and dubstep charts with ‘Hold Me’ named by Skream and Benga as one of their ‘Drops of 2011′. The official video for ‘Hold Me’ has racked up 2.5 million views and to date Delta Heavy are the only artists apart from Knife Party to have had releases on all UKF YouTube channels. With their most ambitious project to date Delta Heavy invite you to follow them ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’ into a place where a myriad of styles, genres and influences are merged into one another and combine effortlessly to create 6 hard-hitting original tracks. The lead track of the EP ‘Get By’ throws the listener back to the turn of the century when UK garage ruled the charts. Pitched up saccharine vocals and bouncy 2 step beats are juxtaposed with a thumping dubstep switch that catapults the dance floor straight back in 2012. Their own 174 bpm remix sees more 90s nostalgia twisted into their trademark pounding drum and bass as the vocal sits on twinkling rave pianos and a reese bassline that builds to a thundering drop. ‘End of Days’ sees Delta Heavy in more familiar territory. A staple of Andy C sets in recent months, a tense and apocalyptic intro rises through grinding alarm stabs and an urgent guitar riff towards an unrelenting wall of searing synths and bass. In a similar vein ‘Turbine’ retains the dystopian, mechanical mood whilst combining more traditional jungle ingredients, rugged breakbeats and a ripping hoover lead. ‘Make It Rain’ keeps the tempo at 174 bpm but flips the genre on its head with a funky, swaggering take on the half time style. ‘Demons’ picks up from where ‘Hold Me’ left off, balancing light and shade expertly as a tropical intro of steel drums and imploring vocals cascade into an explosive conclusion.

Born into an artistic home without a television set, lead singer Joshua Bowyer learnt to entertain on the piano from an early age, spending much of his childhood summers travelling around Europe with his father’s folk group. He built a large repertoire of musical ideas in the long nights spent sleeping on the road, inspired by the early greats of the 60s and 70s that made up the repertoire of his father’s band. Although nameless in the beginning, Willesden Green five piece Channel Cairo bonded early on over an interest in life on the road and the ‘golden age of travel’. This nostalgic interest hailing back from Josh’s roots hits fever pitch amongst the group, when linked to those early 60s and 70s British rock’n’roll bands. Beyond the music; it was the stories, decadence and the Boeing 720 Starship that left them dreaming up their own particular modern day musical adventure.
Channel Cairo have honed a delicate blend of dreamy piano led melodies fronted with ethereal vocal techniques sitting over a propulsive beats. In June the band plan to release their second single entitled ‘A YEAR’ as featured on BBC Introducing and BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson show, the stunning follow up to the bands debut offering in 2011 of Elephant Room – an exquisite piano-led track which paid homage to their early simpler roots in being the first track that the band played together.
Following on from the success of ‘Elephant Room’, which garnered praise from BBC6 Music, Absolute Radio, The Sunday Times and Music Week, A Year beckons on closer listen the spectre of a melancholic song inspired through personal loss. Yet it is the song’s infectious melody and stirring chorus that commands closure leaving its tone uplifting and unique with every listen. It is this paradoxical quality that will see A Year just as easily fill headphones as dancefloors and reaffirm Channel Cairo as a understated British talent to watch out for in 2012!

Having met in a studio on London’s Holloway Road, Jason Newton’s laptop electronica based compositions fused with Bella Bennett’s imposing, yet delicate vocal back in 2009 to form Blue Angel. Making their mark with the hard-hitting storytelling of ’43 Days’ and the desolate optimism of ‘Beautiful Day’, it could be said that the poptastic chant of ‘One More Down To Go’ is a change in direction for the London based duo. While ‘One More Down To Go’ may transport you to a euphoric and idyllic mind-space, it is still tinged with the melancholic optimism that has become the signature of their sound. Newton says of the single, “Music has always been an escape for me. Blue Angel came together to explore ethereal, ambient sounds as an escape for both ourselves and our listeners. ‘One More Down To Go’ may differ from our previous singles, but release comes in different forms. We just want to discover new ways of expressing freedom from the trapped sensation that can be caused by jobs, relationships, city living or just life in general”. ‘One More Down To Go’ may have caved in to the joyous optimism of a sun-drenched summer, it also captures the loneliness, regret and confusion that are so often their partner.

Introducing Eli & Fur – New track: Sea of Stars
This is the first musical offering from Eli & Fur, a duo who have been making music together since college. Living in London and friends since the age of 16 they have both been passionate about music from a young age. Eli has been singing, playing guitar and writing songs since she was 12 while Fur grew up fixated on art and design whilst listening to a whole spectrum of pop, dance and house music. Over the years both girls became obsessed with creating melodies and lyrics together, writing, playing and programming their own tracks, drawing from both their musical influences and experiences.
After college, the DJing side of their musical path also began to take shape. Their sets are influenced by a wide range of electronic club music, from old school Chicago classics to contemporary house and tech house. Working without an agent the girls have chased all and any opportunities for DJ slots, managing to get their hands on a selection of great gigs in and around London and as far afield as Tokyo and Los Angeles. Also appearing at Glade and Glastonbury last summer. Now ready to make their first musical statement as recording artists, Sea Of Stars will be released on April 26th with an additional edit from Nic Fanciulli.

I Cypress Hill, guidati dal frontman B-Real affiancato da Sen Dog, DJ Julio G ed il percussionista Eric Bobo, sono uno dei gruppi hip-hop più famosi e influenti nella storia della musica con più di 18 milioni di copie vendute in tutto il mondo, molti brani tra le hits più famose ed una grandissima fanbase a livello mondiale abbracciando un pubblico anche piu’ cross-over. Il nome Cypress Hill s’ispira ad una strada locale, ed esibendosi in tutta Los Angeles raggiungono una prima notorietà, nel 1991 la Ruffhouse/Columbia Records scrittura il gruppo e dà loro la possibilità di produrre un LP. All’inizio del 1992 esce ‘Cypress Hill’, LP d’esordio che scuote il mondo del rap, soprattutto underground, con i singoli ‘How I Could Just Kill A Man’ e ‘The Phuncky Feel One’. I loro adepti sono presi dal mood cupo, la voce nasale di B-Real, dalla loro fissa con la marijuana non a caso portavoce della National Organization To Reform Marijuana Laws. Nell’estate del 1993 pubblicano ‘Black Sunday’ che li riconferma e gli permette di occupare il primo posto nella classifica americana degli album grazie al famoso singolo ‘Insane In The Brain’, in cui B-Real e Sen Dog si alternano sopra un break beat incalzante e ballabile. Unito alla formazione originaria Bobo come percussionista, nel 1995 i Cypress Hill partecipano al Lollapalooza Tour, dopodiché esce il loro nuovo album ‘Temples Of Boom’ che inizialmente vende un buon numero di copie ed entra nelle R&B e nelle pop charts. I tre membri, maturati stilisticamente, nel 2000 producono ‘Skull & Bones’ che delinea ulteriormente la loro linea musicale: l’LP viene realizzato in due cd, uno puramente hip hop e l’altro con influenze rock, il primo singolo estratto viene distribuito nelle versioni (Rock) Superstar con la collaborazione di Dino Cazares (Fear Factory) e (Rap Superstar, ed è considerato l’effettiva rinascita del gruppo. Nel 2002 esce ‘Stoned Raiders’ che rafforza la presenza del rapcore nella loro produzione, ed i Cypress finiscono per essere apprezzati da rocker e punkster, oltre che dai b-boys. Nel 2004 è la volta di ‘Till Death Do Us Part’, viene estratto il singolo ‘What’s Your Number?’, club anthem ispirata alla canzone ‘Guns Of Brixton’ dei Clash e realizzata in collaborazione con Tim Armstrong leader dei Rancid. Influenze Reggae si riscontrano anche nelle altre tracce dell’album Hanno partecipato a Lollapalooza, nominati “Miglior Gruppo Rap” dal Rolling Stone, hanno collaborato con Pearl Jam e Sonic Youth, sono stati al primo posto della classifica “Billboard Top 200 Albums” e hanno dato in licenza la loro musica per molti TV show, spot pubblicitari e film.I Cypress Hill sono stati anche il primo gruppo hiphop latino a raggiungere un disco di platino. Sarà Everlast leader degli House Of Pain ad accompagnare Cypress Hill in tour in qualità di ospite speciale. Nel Making Of i Barely Awake si mettono personalmente all’opera per costruire il set del video che vedremo presto su kreativeklantv! All’inizio del video vale la pena prestare attenzione alla traccia di accompagnamento… sampling, looping e editing di rumori di carpenteria, che i ragazzi hanno genialmente curato per dare una degna colonna sonora a questo video di backstage.

God’s Watching Tv Shows (SINAVER | Remix)
In arrivo la nuova single track firmata Sinaver, released by Kreative Klan! Remix d’eccezione preso in prestito dalla scena Indie Alternative… i padrini del brano sono i Rock Destroy Legends, che recentemente hanno attirato l’attenzione di Mtv New Generetion proprio con il video di questo brano! La rivisitazione nu disco è stata prodotta e remixata dai Sinaver, poi masterizzata in Kreative Klan Studio a Verona. Il progetto SINAVER nasce a Bologna, nell’estate 2011 dall’idea dei due attuali componenti Denis e Federico. Dopo varie esperienze in formazioni metalcore, il duo decide di sperimentare nuove sonorità, mescolando Electro, House e NuDisco. Nella trama dei brani e nel gusto per le sonorità più grezze e trash un orecchio attento è in grado di riconoscere la complessità degli ascolti di Denis e Federico. A marzo 2012 il duo SINAVER entra a far parte del roster di artisti Kreative Klan, come progetto discografico di punta electro dubstep. Allo stesso tempo divengono endorser per il brand di MusiK Apparel che sta conquistando il mercato italo-tedesco.
Per quanto riguarda l’attività on stage i SINAVER sono Resident Dj per la serata Panic Attack @ Covo Club di Bologna (http://covoclub.it/), ormai occasione di culto per i clubber emiliani. SINAVER è un progetto di produzione originale e con sguardo internazionale, che si ispira alla scena dubstep ma curiosa anche altrove. “We’ve released a lot of songs since ‘Pennybridge Pioneers’ that were not released on our previous albums, so we thought it was about time to put them all on one,” says Erik Ohlsson. “We recorded a bunch of new songs in our own studio where we also recorded our previous album ‘Machine 15′ from 2008, and picked two of them for this release. We’re really excited about the new stuff we recorded! ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES: in Italia ad Agosto per un’unica data!
I ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES li conosciamo tutti, non tanto per la presenza al loro interno di Fat Mike (NOFX), Joey Cape e Dave Raun (Lagwagon), quanto perché rappresentano la “all-star-punk-rock super-cover-band” più famosa al mondo! Esplosi negli anni ’90, hanno da subito superato di gran lunga i concorrenti, vincendo a mani basse contro qualunque altra cover band punk rock e mettendo a tacere anche i più sfiduciati con il primo album ‘Have A Ball’, datato 1997. Nel corso della loro carriera hanno affrontato in maniera sempre più ironica e vincente qualunque genere musicale, spaziando dall’R’n’B ai classici degli anni ‘50/’60, passando per il country, fino a coverizzare canzoni australiane con l’EP ‘Go Down Under’ pubblicato nel 2011. I Me First And The Gimme Gimmes non hanno mai subito rallentamenti dovuti alle principali band di appartenenza dei componenti: non si sono mai riposati sugli allori, tanto da aver recentemente pubblicato il loro progetto più ambizioso, ‘Sing In Japanese!’, un EP in cui questi 5 american ninja affrontano la cultura giapponese direttamente a casa del nemico: cantando in giapponese! Come avrà fatto Spike, cantante della band a imparare il giapponese? La risposta più ovvia sarebbe grazie alle sue immense doti di eroe del punk-rock! La storia però racconta che Fat Mike abbia reclutato un suo amico giapponese di vecchia data che ha scritto la fonetica di tutti i testi, successivamente cantati da Spike, e la sperimentazione non si è fermata qui! In effetti dopo il primo tentativo di cantare i brani, la band ha invitato un gruppo di turisti giapponesi in studio (per la precisione il 606 Studio dei Foo Fighters) per ascoltare i pezzi e decretare che fossero realmente ascoltabili. Il risultato è una manciata di classici giapponesi, in versione Gimmes!! L’idea è abbastanza chiara, i Me First And The Gimme Gimmes hanno fin qui dimostrato di riuscire a fare qualunque cosa. Hanno venduto canzoni di Neil Diamond ai giovani punk rocker, ridotto in lacrime un gremito stadio dei Pittsburgh Pirates usando ‘Stairway To Heaven’ come unica arma, hanno rovinato disinteressatamente il bar mitzvah di un giovane ignaro ragazzo che li aveva invitati ad animarlo, e non si fermeranno di certo qua! Infatti dopo aver sperimentato il giapponese nelle intenzioni della band c’è lo sbarco in Spagna, Francia, Germania e nella nostra Italia, con una serie di EP in lingua originale. L’intento è chiaro, dare una risposta alla domanda “esiste una singola cultura su questo pianeta in grado di fare meglio di un gruppo di ubriaconi californiani che ci aggiunge il proprio tocco originale?”. Anche se un assaggio di risposta si potrà avere la prossima estate in occasione dell’unica data italiana, noi siamo già sicuri di poter ribattere gridando a squarciagola “YEAH! YEAH! YEAH!”

Dopo la pubblicazione del loro secondo album nel 2010 – ‘Beast Rest Forth Mouth’ – , e del singolo ‘Lovesick Teenager’, si sono susseguiti una serie di eventi cruciali per il trio di Brooklyn meglio noto come BEAR IN HEAVEN. Jon Philpot, Joe Stickney ed Adam Wills hanno inaugurato una parabola artistica che in breve tempo li avrebbe portati a lambire la club culture. Usando sempre una forte connotazione indie, sia chiaro. In un’ipotetica marcia d’avvicinamento verso sonorità familiari a The Field, Studio, Caribou e Four Tet i nostri incasellano anche un singolo split con i norvegesi Lindstrøm e Christabelle, che nell’occasione riproponevano la loro hit ‘Lovesick Teenagers’. Oltre 200 concerti in supporto al precedente album non hanno però attaccato la mentalità del gruppo, che ad un passo dalla notorietà decide di ritirarsi in studio per dare un seguito a quel piccolo miracolo underground. Nella casalinga Brooklyn lavorano con grande intensità ad un successore, la loro scrittura è quasi maniacale e tornare spesso e volentieri sullo stesso arrangiamento è prassi comune. Hometapes e Dead Ocean sostengono questa loro prova del fuoco a nome ‘I Love You, It’s Cool’. Un disco vivido e visionario, che amplifica la confidenza e la calma trasmessa dal titolo. Il lavoro alle macchine ed alla programmazione di Philpot è complesso e competente, sia nell’arcobaleno di ‘Kiss Me Crazy’ che nelle matrici rumorose di ‘Space Remains’. ‘The Reflection of You’ è forse la cosa che maggiormente rasenta una hit, il suo ritmo motoriko e le sue tastiere balearic ne fanno un successo annunciato.
