Volcom Entertainment pubblicherà il nuovo disco dei Turbonegro ‘Sexual Harassment’ il 13 giugno.

Dicevano che non sarebbe mai potuto succedere, ma gli uomini in jeans dei Turbonegro sono tornati. Come un pendolare giapponese che si struscia su di voi in un affollato vagone della metropolitana di Tokyo, il quintetto norvegese vi “molesterà sessualmente” con il loro nono album, ‘Sexual Harassment’, che uscirà per Volcom Entertainment il prossimo 13 giugno. Dopo circa 10 anni di rispetto e ammirazione reciproci, la band in jeans e il marchio di jeans ritornano insieme con l’uscita per Volcom Entertainment del primo singolo estratto dal nuovo album a breve in uscita. ‘You Give Me Worms’, trasmesso recentemente in anteprima sulla BBC1, è già disponibile nella versione digitale a partire da oggi, 4 maggio.
Comincia così una nuova era per la più grande band underground rock’n roll del mondo. L’album di 10 brani, registrato presso gli Electric Lady Studios di New York City e che uscirà nella versione digitale il prossimo 13 giugno, mette in mostra le radici musicali dei Turbonegro che affondano nell’hardcore punk, nella musica alternativa degli anni ’80, nei riff essenziali degli Stooges e degli Stones, passando per il glitter rock degli stivaloni con le zeppe fino a toccare la bubble gum music tanto cara alle radio in ogni era, il tutto eseguito con l’inconfondibile stile dei Turbonegro. The Darkness annunciano l’uscita del nuovo album ‘HOT CAKES’ nel mese di Agosto 2012

I rocker inglesi The Darkness hanno confermato che pubblicheranno il proprio terzo album ‘Hot Cakes’ il prossimo 21 Agosto. Il disco uscirà per PIAS (in tutto il mondo esclusi Nord e Sud America) e Wind Up (Nord e Sud America), è stato prodotto da Justin e Dan Hawkins insieme al loro collaboratore di lunga data Nick Brine, ed è stato mixato da Bob Ezrin. Dopo sei anni di impaziente attesa, i fan possono aspettarsi un’esplosione riff e ritornelli pop accompagnati dai consueti, irresistibili inni da cantare a squarciagola dentro uno stadio. Altri dettagli verranno diffusi a breve.

The Darkness inaugureranno il proprio tour australiano domani 4 Maggio, prima di volare negli Stati Uniti per la seconda volta quest’anno. Torneranno in Europa per una serie di festival prima di unirsi come main support di Lady Gaga nel suo enorme ‘Born This Way Ball’ tour.

DUB PISTOLS ‘WORSHIPPING THE DOLLAR’ UK TOUR

The unstoppable Dub Pistols are on the road for a series of ‘Mucky Weekends’ in support of their recently announced fifth album ‘Worshipping The Dollar’, out 2nd July on Sunday Best Recordings. The band call at York, Newcastle, London, Glastonbury (yes, they do know the festival isn’t on), Barrow In Firness, Hertford, Guildford, Southampton, and Bristol during May before heading into a full festival programme. Barry Ashworth and his motley crew created their latest long-player in between gigs every weekend following the release of acclaimed 2009 album ‘Rum & Coke’. ‘Worshipping The Dollar’ sees a return to lyrical themes explored on earlier albums with deeper and more conscious lyrics and a pacier feel to the tracks, which mirrors their increasingly frenetic live shows. From their early beginnings as a soundsystem project, Dub Pistols have grown into a party-rocking live band that ignites festivals and venues. Their infectious blend of ska, dub, hip-hop, electronic music and punk has won them many fans around the globe over the past 15 years and, following sold-out shows across Europe, they were justifiably voted the Best Live Act at DJ Mag’s Best Of British Awards at the end of 2011.

James Lee Lindsey Jr. (1 Maggio 1980 – 13 Gennaio 2010), meglio conosciuto come Jay Reatard, è stato un garage rocker di Memphis (Tennessee), ha pubblicato dischi come membro di: Reatards, Lost Sounds, Angry Angels, Terror Visions, Destruction Unit, Nervous Patterns, The Final Solutions, e Bad Times. La sua carriera di musicista iniziò all’età di 15 anni, quando il suo demo arrivò alle orecchie di Eric Friedl, membro fondatore della Goner Records e della storica band Oblivians; impressionato dal sound di Lindsey decide di far uscire il suo primo Ep, dicendo: “sono rimasto subito impressionato, sono sempre stato fan di tutto quello che ha fatto Jay, è un ragazzo formidabile”. Dopo aver fatto il suo primo tour europeo a soli 18 anni con i Reatards, Jay decide di fondare i Lost Sounds, dove lui era il maggior compositore assieme ad Alicja Trout. Con i Lost Sounds, Jay introduce un sintetizzatore, facendo discostare il sound dal garage sanguigno e old school dei Reatards. Nel 2004, forma la Shattered Records con la sua ex ragazza Alix Brown, un etichetta indipendente che fa uscire principalmente dischi in vinile in tiratura limitata, di alcune delle loro band e di altri gruppi di amici. Successivamente, poco prima del 2006, dopo lo scioglimento dei Reatards e Lost Sounds, Jay si concentra principalmente su altri progetti paralleli, raggiungendo l’uscita del suo primo disco solista sull’importante etichetta In the red, intitolato ‘Blood Visions’. Dopo un lungo tour presentando il disco, firma un accordo, con la Matador, (etichetta indipendente newyorchese di spicco), rifiutando altre offerte discografiche da Major come Universal, Columbia e Vice. Dopo l’uscita di sei singoli in tiratura limitata in formato 7″, piovono le recensioni da NME, Spin Magazine, Rolling Stone, facendo crescere la popolarità di Jay, che inizia a calcare palchi più grossi e suonare in festival in tutto il mondo. L’anno dopo esce ‘Matador Singles 08′, una raccolta di 6 singoli che ha un sound decisamente diverso dai lavori precedenti, e viene descritto dallo stesso Jay come “Pop music rumorosa”. L’ultimo álbum di Jay, ‘Watch Me Fall’, esce nell’agosto del 2009, appunto per Matador record, caratterizzato da pezzi più melodici, dove vengono introdotti anche parti di organo, mandolino, ma sopratutto armonie vocali che contribuiscono a rendere il sound più malleabile e distante dal garage rock sanguigno degli esordi. Purtroppo il 13 Gennaio del 2010 Jay fu trovato morto nella sua casa di Memphis attorno alle 3.30 del mattino. Aveva 29 anni. Il referto medico ufficiale sancisce il decesso come “morte da intossicazione di alcool e cocaina”.

New Single – ‘Tuscany’

Line-up changes can be discouraging for an unsigned band, but not for Victor Talking Machine. With previous members leaving, being kicked out, or dying, Frontmen Ricky Clark (Eyes: Green, Hair: Dark Brown, Height: 6”) and Stephen Smith (Hazel, Black, 6”1) met at university in North London and developed a bond through mirrored musical influences. With the recent addition of Mathew Turner (Blue, Light Brown, 5”11) on bass and George Latham (Blue, Dark Brown, 5”10) on drums, the band are already gaining a reputation on the London live circuit – Victor Talking Machine have spent the first 4 months of their existence playing alongside kindred spirits in Fanzine, Echo Lake, KVB and Sulk and are consistently providing roller-coaster live performances packed full of melodic pop music reminiscent to that of Teenage Fanclub, Weezer and Pavement – who are cited as influences for the group. Victor Talking Machine release their debut single ‘Tuscany’ on May 14th, digitally available worldwide through Silver Music/IDOL. A limited pressing of physical copies will be available in later in the month. ‘Tuscany’ is slacker pop with an emphasis on the chorus, glorious fuzz and melody, driven by an evocative rhythm section, along-side Stephen Smith and Ricky Clark’s distribution of vocal duties combine as a catalyst to create refreshing British guitar pop.

Collaborating with Marc Waterman, producer for Elastica, Ride and Ash in the 90’s, meant that the group could share a vision in creating a distinctly British angle on guitar pop music – with added influences and twists to give way for the sound of Victor Talking Machine. Recorded live with very few overdubs, the forthcoming singles ‘Tuscany‘ and follow up single ‘Had Enough’ are records that show a band on their way to capturing hearts with honesty and freshness.

Delta Heavy have just dropped the official video for ‘Get By’, the lead track from their forthcoming EP for Ram Records ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’, which is out on 28th May. True to their self prophetic genre-less guise of anything and everything between 110-174 bpm, the last 6 months have seen Delta Heavy filling in the gap between their last Ram release and new EP ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’ with the completion of extensive tours of Australia, USA, Canada & Europe as well as churning out an array of multi genre remixes for Emalkay, Adam F, The Fixers and a speaker destroying remix of Maverick Sabre’s ‘Used To Have It All’. The official video for ‘Hold Me’ has racked up 2.5 million views and to date Delta Heavy are the only artists apart from Knife Party to have had releases on all UKF YouTube channels. With their most ambitious project to date Delta Heavy invite you to follow them ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’ into a place where a myriad of styles, genres and influences are merged into one another and combine effortlessly to create 6 hard-hitting original tracks. The lead track of the EP ‘Get By’ throws the listener back to the turn of the century when UK garage ruled the charts. Pitched up saccharine vocals and bouncy 2 step beats are juxtaposed with a thumping dubstep switch that catapults the dance floor straight back in 2012. Their own 174 bpm remix sees more 90s nostalgia twisted into their trademark pounding drum and bass as the vocal sits on twinkling rave pianos and a reese bassline that builds to a thundering drop. ‘End of Days’ sees Delta Heavy in more familiar territory. Born into an artistic home without a television set, lead singer Joshua Bowyer learnt to entertain on the piano from an early age, spending much of his childhood summers travelling around Europe with his father’s folk group. He built a large repertoire of musical ideas in the long nights spent sleeping on the road, inspired by the early greats of the 60s and 70s that made up the repertoire of his father’s band. Although nameless in the beginning, Willesden Green five piece Channel Cairo bonded early on over an interest in life on the road and the ‘golden age of travel’. This nostalgic interest hailing back from Josh’s roots hits fever pitch amongst the group, when linked to those early 60s and 70s British rock’n’roll bands. Beyond the music; it was the stories, decadence and the Boeing 720 Starship that left them dreaming up their own particular modern day musical adventure.

Channel Cairo have honed a delicate blend of dreamy piano led melodies fronted with ethereal vocal techniques sitting over a propulsive beats. In June the band plan to release their second single entitled ‘A YEAR’ as featured on BBC Introducing and BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson show, the stunning follow up to the bands debut offering in 2011 of Elephant Room – an exquisite piano-led track which paid homage to their early simpler roots in being the first track that the band played together.
Following on from the success of ‘Elephant Room’, which garnered praise from BBC6 Music, Absolute Radio, The Sunday Times and Music Week, A Year beckons on closer listen the spectre of a melancholic song inspired through personal loss. Yet it is the song’s infectious melody and stirring chorus that commands closure leaving its tone uplifting and unique with every listen. It is this paradoxical quality that will see A Year just as easily fill headphones as dancefloors and reaffirm Channel Cairo as a understated British talent to watch out for in 2012!

Having met in a studio on London’s Holloway Road, Jason Newton’s laptop electronica based compositions fused with Bella Bennett’s imposing, yet delicate vocal back in 2009 to form Blue Angel. Making their mark with the hard-hitting storytelling of ’43 Days’ and the desolate optimism of ‘Beautiful Day’, it could be said that the poptastic chant of ‘One More Down To Go’ is a change in direction for the London based duo. Please welcome My Fictions to the Topshelf family! This one’s a long time coming and just made sense. We see half of this band just about every day and it’s been awesome hearing and seeing them grow in the greater Boston area and beyond. The band is hitting the road for some quick dates with Achilles and Like Wolves in support of their most recent output, ‘I Want Nothing’ released by Flannel Gurl Records (which you can stream directly below, or purchase in the Topshelf store). Introducing Eli & Fur – New track: Sea of Stars

This is the first musical offering from Eli & Fur, a duo who have been making music together since college. Living in London and friends since the age of 16 they have both been passionate about music from a young age. Eli has been singing, playing guitar and writing songs since she was 12 while Fur grew up fixated on art and design whilst listening to a whole spectrum of pop, dance and house music. Over the years both girls became obsessed with creating melodies and lyrics together, writing, playing and programming their own tracks, drawing from both their musical influences and experiences.

After college, the DJing side of their musical path also began to take shape. Their sets are influenced by a wide range of electronic club music, from old school Chicago classics to contemporary house and tech house. Working without an agent the girls have chased all and any opportunities for DJ slots, managing to get their hands on a selection of great gigs in and around London and as far afield as Tokyo and Los Angeles. Also appearing at Glade and Glastonbury last summer. Now ready to make their first musical statement as recording artists, Sea Of Stars will be released on April 26th with an additional edit from Nic Fanciulli.

Gli YOUNG MAGIC sono una giovane band di Brooklyn (oramai sede affermata della suono indipendente), New York, fondata dall’artista australiano Isaac Emmanuel, con l’aiuto dell’indonesiana Melati Malay e di Michael Italia. Gli Young Magic hanno un sound unico fatto di miscele electro pop, bassi acidi e potenti, ed echi di world music. La loro musica fa pensare alla summa dell’indie pop degli ultimi anni, dai Beach House, fino al miscela electro/glo-fi/chill wave di Toro Y Moi, e Washed Out. Sfruttano alternativamente l’eredità dreamy dei vicini Animal Collective, di Brian Wilson dei Beach Boys, dello shoegazing e di Neon Indian innestandola con percussività sintetiche di warpiana memoria. Danno l’impressione di avere una propria concezione del glo-fi, e di portarlo verso i lidi eccentrici e arty dei Gang Gang Dance e dei Rainbow Arabia. La band di Isaac Emmanuel si è fatta notare anche per la mole di materiale pubblicato, ma un solo vero e proprio full lenght, ben divisa tra singoli, split e vari mixtape. ‘Melt’, full lenght d’esordio degli Young Magic, pubblicato dalla Carpark records, è uno degli album più interessanti dell’anno, incensato da Pitchfork e amato dalla critica europea, inserito per qualità allo stesso livello degli esordi dei Toro Y Moi e Washed Out. Dal vivo hanno fatto innamorare il pubblico del SXSW, a New York e negli states i loro show sono sempre sold out, e ora si apprestano ad invadere l’Europa. Saranno in Italia per tre concerti a Maggio: Il 16 all’Hop di Genova, il 17 al Circolo degli Artisti di Roma e il 18 all’Ex Macello di Padova. JACUZZI BOYS INTERVIEW

Dalla Florida all’Italia, da Miami a Roma. In occasione del loro concerto capitolino presso il Circolo Degli Artisti, gli Jacuzzi Boys sono riusciti a ritagliare un po’ di tempo per noi di Salad Days Magazine, che siamo sempre alla ricerca di esperienze ad alto tasso di sudore ed energia. Prima di salire sul palco, con l’adrenalina che già cominciava a pompare nelle vene, i tre ragazzi floridiani ci hanno raccontato del loro tour europeo, del loro rock’n'roll irradiato di garage e punk primordiale, della loro vita on the road. Eccovi serviti il resoconto in parole ed immagini.

SD: CIAO RAGAZZI, COME STA ANDANDO IL TOUR EUROPEO?
JB: Sta andando benissimo! Ci stiamo divertendo molto a suonare in giro per l’Europa e adoriamo essere in tour. Trovo fantastico conoscere tutte queste culture cosi differenti tra loro.

SD: È LA PRIMA VOLTA CHE SUONATE QUI IN ITALIA?
JB: Si è la prima volta che suoniamo in Italia, ieri abbiamo suonato a Savignano, ed è stato fantastico, la gente è impazzita. Prima di venire qui in italia eravamo in Svizzera ed è stato molto strano questo spostamento in quanto abbiamo trovato moltissime differenze culturali.

SD: PARLIAMO DEL VOSTRO NUOVO ALBUM ‘GLAZIN’, COSA SIGNIFICA PER VOI QUESTA PAROLA?
JB: Un giorno mi è capitato di scrivere questa parola, e sembrava suonare bene, penso sia un titolo divertente. Questa parola non ha un significato preciso, ognuno di noi può interpretarla nel modo migliore. Glazin può essere un sentimento che provi per una ragazza o per un altra qualsiasi persona; Glazin può essere considerato uno stile di vita…uno stile di vita rock’n'roll.

SD: HO NOTATO CHE CURATE MOLTO IL VOSTRO LOOK, COSA NE PENSATE DELLA MODA?
JB: Mi piace molto, ma non la seguo in modo particolare. Il mio approccio ad essa è molto semplice e spontaneo…quando trovo una t-shirt o un qualsiasi abito che mi piace la indosso.

SD: ULTIMAMENTE LE BANDS DELLA NUOVA SCENA INDE ROCK HANNO FORTI INFLUENZE ELETTRONICHE, IL SINTETIZZATORE E’ DIVENTATO UNO STRUMENTO MOLTO COMUNE ORMAI, COSA NE PENSATE A RIGUARDO?
JB: In ‘Glazin’ in alcuni parti abbiamo usato un po’ di sintetizzatore. Non sappiamo usare molto bene il sintetizzatore, non ci siamo mai dedicati ma l’idea non mi dispiace.

SD: COME DEFINITE IL VOSTRO SOUND?
JB: Il nostro sound è rock’n'roll, sono inutili altre definizioni più complicate…molti ci definiscono garage rock, surf rock, indie rock, power pop…a me piace definirlo solamente rock’n'roll, perchè è quello che noi realmente suoniamo.

SD: LO TROVO MOLTO SIMILE A QUELLO DEGLI ANNI 70, IN PARTICOLARE A BAND PUNK ROCK COME BUZZCOCKS, MA COSA INFLUENZA MAGGIORMENTE IL VOSTRO COMPORRE MUSICA?
JB: Sicuramente la maggior parte delle nostre influenze provengono dagli anni 60-70 dal surf rock, e come hai detto te anche la scena a cui appartenevano i Buzzcocks. In particolare le nostre proveniamo da Miami, siamo molto attaccati a questa città e adoriamo la sua scena negli anni 60. Il nostro sound proviene da li sicuramente, per noi è sempre stata una grande ispirazione.

SD: IL MIGLIOR ALBUM DEI JACUZZY BOYS?
JB: Non c’è un album migliore dell’altro, tutto quello che facciamo lo troviamo unico.

SD: BUONA FORTUNA PER STASERA
JB: Grazie, spero di fare un concerto fico e che vengano tante persone a sentirci e ballare!!!

The Scream It Like You Mean It Tour is back in 2012 with a lineup so huge and completely badass that we’re going to torture you by announcing it over three days!! The SILYMI Tour site www.silymi2012.com launched this week, and on Wednesday, April 18, it’s where the first 6 bands will be revealed, one each hour on the hour, starting at 1pm EST and ending at 6pm EST. FACE TO FACE: FOMENTO vs LIVING CORPSE
Usciti in contemporanea per Coroner Records, i nuovi lavori di Fomento e Living Corpse evidenziano due scuole di pensiero assai differenti: quella dura e pura dei primi e quella più aperta alle nuove influenze dei torinesi. Incontriamo entrambe le band per un’intervista molto, molto particolare!

SD: Presentatevi e presentate il vostro nuovo lavoro ai nostri lettori.
Fomento: Il gruppo nasce circa sei anni fa a Roma da una mia idea. Il nostro primo concerto è stato il 06/06/06 al Traffic ed è appena uscito il nostro secondo album ‘To Persevere Is Diabolical’ licenziato da Coroner Records. Come il primo, è stato prodotto da me, registrato agli studi Kutso Noise Home con Matteo Gabbianelli e il maestoso artwork è opera di Brent Elliott White (Job for a Cowboy, Arch Enemy, Trivium).
Living Corpse: La band esiste dal 2000 anche se recentemente abbiamo cambiato formazione mantenendo solo due dei precedenti componenti. Precedentemente abbiamo pubblicato due lavori, un primo EP ‘The Red Line’ uscito nel 2005 e poi ‘Metaphysical Collapse’ pubblicato nel 2010 sempre per Coroner Records. A marzo abbiamo pubblicato il nostro nuovo disco ‘And Everything Slips Away’ che è un lavoro che ha un sound completamente rinnovato, anche grazie al cambiamento della maggior parte dei componenti che ha portato influenze nuove su cui abbiamo sviluppato la nostra musica.

SD: Quali sono i punti di interesse a vostro avviso del vostro album?
Fomento: Abbiamo cercato di evolverci e raggiungere nuovi livelli di audio-violenza e istigazione musicale. Non credo in giro ci sia molta gente che musicalmente fa quello che facciamo noi e soprattutto come lo facciamo noi. A livello di testi poi vi invito a scaricare il lyrics book del disco dal mio sito, so per certo che ci troverete qualcosa di interessante e magari originale.
Living Corpse: Pensiamo che il punto forte del nostro ultimo disco sia il fatto di aver unito molte influenze musicali differenti e averle fuse assieme in modo che calzino perfettamente.

SD: In Rete si parla molto bene dei vostri relativi album, ma si sa, le parole hanno un valore minimo se confrontate con le idee di una band. Bene, a questo punto dateci due buoni motivi per acquistare il vostro album!
Fomento: Primo: se vi piace il thrash metal americano a 300 km/h e il death metal europeo ciccione e freddo da morire ‘To Persevere Is Diabolical’ fa per voi! Secondo motivo: nel disco non ci sono ritornelli da bimbominkia e melodie straccia palle, solo pura aggressione.
Living Corpse: Pensiamo che sia un disco valido e concorrenziale anche con le proposte musicali che arrivano da America ed Europa, abbiamo curato molto ogni aspetto del disco, dalla copertina disegnata da Jon Barmby (Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Your Demise) alla produzione che è stata la cosa a cui abbiamo dedicato più tempo, con Audio Crime Recordings ed Ettore Rigotti!

SD: L’Italia va stretta a una band come la vostra? Che idea vi siete fatti della scena musicale italiana?
Fomento: Sai, la scena italiana è una piazza molto difficile per tanti motivi. Noi facciamo metal estremo e il vero problema in Italia non è la scarsa cultura metal, bensì che non c’è nemmeno una cultura rock decente. Spacciano Celentano, Vasco e Ligabue come rock, com è possibile allora educare il pubblico alle nostre di sonorità?
Living Corpse: Probabilmente qualche anno fa sì perchè la mentalità era molto più chiusa e le band non avevano la possibilità di farsi notare e di farsi apprezzare. Ma negli ultimi anni le cose sono cambiate in parte, ci sono più mezzi di comunicazione e le persone sono più disposte a sbattersi per i concerti, difatti molte band italiane stanno riuscendo a farsi apprezzare sia in Italia che all’estero.

SD: In entrambi i casi siete licenziati da Coroner Records. Cosa vi ha spinto ad affidarvi nuovamente a questa etichetta e quali sono i pro di questa scelta a vostro avviso?
Fomento: La Coroner Records ha lavorato benissimo per i lancio del primo disco ‘Either Caesars Or Nothing’ nel 2009, quindi è stata una scelta naturale restare con loro. Sono dei ragazzi molto professionali che conoscono il loro lavoro e come farlo bene. Se riceviamo feedback da tutto il mondo è anche e soprattutto merito loro!
Living Corpse: In realtà noi ci siamo trovati molto bene con Coroner Records, senza contare che è cresciuta tantissimo in pochi anni. Sicuramente avere un’etichetta dà più visibilità, diciamo che è molto difficile promuovere un disco autonomamente, sopratutto in Italia.

SD: Qual è il mercato (al di fuori di quello italiano) che a vostro avviso si addice maggiormente a una band come la vostra?
Fomento: Quello americano sicuramente e visto il genere dell’ultimo album credo anche Polonia, Germania e giù di lì.
Living Corpse: Sicuramente quello americano, dove il nostro genere è molto più diffuso, ammirato e dove le persone sono sempre ben disposte ad accettare nuove band con le loro innovazioni!

SD: Venite da due scene assai diverse, quella romana e quella torinese. Cosa è cambiato o sta cambiando all’interno della vostra scena locale dagli anni 90 a oggi?
Fomento: Beh, posso parlare solo per gli ultimi 10 anni. Quello che ho potuto vedere con dispiacere è che è andata in coma tutta la scena hardcore ad esempio. Prima era molto forte ma ultimamente si sono sciolte tutte le band che giravano. Per quanto riguarda il metal è un’agonia come sempre, figuriamoci!
Living Corpse: A Torino ci sono e ci sono state tante band validissime, soprattutto nell’ambito punk hardcore degli anni 90. Ovviamente negli anni il sound si è modificato in un sound più moderno, ma la qualità delle band è sempre elevatissima.

SD:…Ma soprattutto… nel 2012 si può ancora parlare di scena musicale italiana?!
Fomento: Se per scena musicale intendi i talent-show allora sì AHAH! Per il resto non saprei, in Italia si tende a seguire trend musicali che oltralpe o oltreoceano sono già belli che finiti e in generale non ci si supporta un granchè. Un po’ di competizione fa bene per carità, ma se non c’è un intero sistema che ti sostiene è dura.
Living Corpse: Direi di sì. Oggi con mezzi come YouTube e Facebook è più facile arrivare in tutto il mondo, infatti in questi ultimi anni ci sono parecchie band che sono riuscite ad affiorare nel panorama musicale mondiale. L’Italia non ha nulla da invidiare all’Europa, il problema è riuscire a uscire da un paese dove la cultura musicale metal non esiste.

SD: Fate due generi tendenzialmente diversi, ci sarà mai la possibilità di vedervi onstage assieme?
Fomento: Nel caso riuscissimo ad organizzare un Coroner Records Fest penso di sì, perché no! Ci piacerebbe molto spettinarli dal vivo con il nostro attacco sismico sonoro.
Living Corpse: Abbiamo suonato qualche anno fa assieme ai Fomento a Roma e sinceramente speriamo di poter risuonare con loro, anche se dalla nostra parte sono cambiate molte cose!

SD: Siete due band attentissime all’immagine, artwork, merch, sito e look sono in perfetta linea con la proposta sonora. Quanto è importante questo fattore oggigiorno?
Fomento: E’ sicuramente molto importante, come “prodotto” devi essere coerente dall’inizio alla fine. E poi se fai roba bella la gente è più propensa a comprarsela.
Living Corpse: Se non è la cosa più importante è sicuramente una delle cose che più incidono ormai non solo per la presentazione al pubblico (che fa sempre più caso a come sei vestito che a come stai suonando) ma anche per presentarsi a eventuali etichette e booking agency in modo professionale, dimostrando di essere in grado di curare ogni aspetto del proprio lavoro.

SD: Cosa vi piace dei Living Corpse?!
Fomento: Il vecchio disco.

SD: E dal canto vostro cosa vi colpisce dei Fomento?
Living Corpse: Sicuramente hanno un’energia che poche band possiedono! Poi direi che una cosa che li contraddistingue particolarmente è che quello che pensano lo dicono senza farsi troppi problemi. Senza peli sulla lingua… Si dice così no?!

SD: Su cosa a vostro avviso i Living Corpse dovrebbero continuare a lavorar duro?
Fomento: A ripassare i pezzi del primo album.

SD: E nel caso dei Fomento?
Living Corpse: Non mi sento di dare consigli ai Fomento, sono una grande band che rispettiamo e che ha un’esperienza non indifferente.

SD: ‘And Everything Slips Away’: che ne pensi di questo album?
Fomento: La copertina mi piace ma non l’ho ancora ascoltato.

SD: ‘To Persevere Is Diabolical’: che ne pensi di questo album?
Living Corpse: E’ un’album prodotto in maniera professionale, sicuramente per i fan del thrash-death è un album da avere!

SD: Quale sarà la prossima campagna mediatica fomentosa capace di far discutere ogni forum?
Fomento: Dopo il pezzo anti-emo ‘Kill FashionCore’ e quello nuovo contro le reunion-bands ‘Necropotency’ non so ancora cosa vi aspetta, è presto per dirlo. Sicuramente sarà qualcosa di divertente ma incazzato a bestia.

SD: E voi Living, il fatto di essere costantemente paragonati a livello di proposta ai Bring Me The Horizon alla lunga non vi annoia?
Living Corpse: In realtà ci fa piacere essere paragonati a una band di tale livello, anche se di certo speriamo di essere ricordati per qualità nostre e non per la somiglianza di sound con un’altra band.

SD: Dopo tutto questo “volemose bene” fuori la verità, cosa detestate della band con cui condividete questa intervista?
Fomento: Quando ho visto il loro video mi sembravano i Good Charlotte metal e a me i Good Charlotte mi hanno sempre fatto cagare.
Living Corpse: Ahahahah, niente! Ci dispiace per voi, ma non abbiamo nessun motivo per detestare i Fomento!

SD: Un messaggio finale ai compagni d’intervista e ai nostri lettori?
Fomento: In culo alla balena, e ai lettori spero ci seguano su Facebook per aggiornamenti su tour, video, il meteo a Roma, un po’ di porno alla carbonara e tanto altro!

I Cypress Hill, guidati dal frontman B-Real affiancato da Sen Dog, DJ Julio G ed il percussionista Eric Bobo, sono uno dei gruppi hip-hop più famosi e influenti nella storia della musica con più di 18 milioni di copie vendute in tutto il mondo, molti brani tra le hits più famose ed una grandissima fanbase a livello mondiale abbracciando un pubblico anche piu’ cross-over. Il nome Cypress Hill s’ispira ad una strada locale, ed esibendosi in tutta Los Angeles raggiungono una prima notorietà, nel 1991 la Ruffhouse/Columbia Records scrittura il gruppo e dà loro la possibilità di produrre un LP. All’inizio del 1992 esce ‘Cypress Hill’, LP d’esordio che scuote il mondo del rap, soprattutto underground, con i singoli ‘How I Could Just Kill A Man’ e ‘The Phuncky Feel One’. I loro adepti sono presi dal mood cupo, la voce nasale di B-Real, dalla loro fissa con la marijuana non a caso portavoce della National Organization To Reform Marijuana Laws. Nell’estate del 1993 pubblicano ‘Black Sunday’ che li riconferma e gli permette di occupare il primo posto nella classifica americana degli album grazie al famoso singolo ‘Insane In The Brain’, in cui B-Real e Sen Dog si alternano sopra un break beat incalzante e ballabile. Unito alla formazione originaria Bobo come percussionista, nel 1995 i Cypress Hill partecipano al Lollapalooza Tour, dopodiché esce il loro nuovo album ‘Temples Of Boom’ che inizialmente vende un buon numero di copie ed entra nelle R&B e nelle pop charts. I tre membri, maturati stilisticamente, nel 2000 producono ‘Skull & Bones’ che delinea ulteriormente la loro linea musicale: l’LP viene realizzato in due cd, uno puramente hip hop e l’altro con influenze rock, il primo singolo estratto viene distribuito nelle versioni (Rock) Superstar con la collaborazione di Dino Cazares (Fear Factory) e (Rap Superstar, ed è considerato l’effettiva rinascita del gruppo. Nel 2002 esce ‘Stoned Raiders’ che rafforza la presenza del rapcore nella loro produzione, ed i Cypress finiscono per essere apprezzati da rocker e punkster, oltre che dai b-boys. Nel 2004 è la volta di ‘Till Death Do Us Part’, viene estratto il singolo ‘What’s Your Number?’, club anthem ispirata alla canzone ‘Guns Of Brixton’ dei Clash e realizzata in collaborazione con Tim Armstrong leader dei Rancid. Influenze Reggae si riscontrano anche nelle altre tracce dell’album Hanno partecipato a Lollapalooza, nominati “Miglior Gruppo Rap” dal Rolling Stone, hanno collaborato con Pearl Jam e Sonic Youth, sono stati al primo posto della classifica “Billboard Top 200 Albums” e hanno dato in licenza la loro musica per molti TV show, spot pubblicitari e film.I Cypress Hill sono stati anche il primo gruppo hiphop latino a raggiungere un disco di platino. Sarà Everlast leader degli House Of Pain ad accompagnare Cypress Hill in tour in qualità di ospite speciale. Presenterà il suo nuovo album dal titolo ‘Songs Of The Ungrateful Living’, pubblicato in Italia lo scorso 5 marzo, oltrechè i classici del repertorio degli House Of Pain come la hit mondiale ‘Jump Around’. L’opening affidato a DOPE D.O.D.(NL) direttamente dall’Olanda uno dei gruppi piu’ acclamati dell’anno.

Direttamente dalla fredda cittadina di Groningen, che già diede i natali al progetto Noisia, arriva la Rap Band più innovativa degli ultimi anni. I tre MCs – JayReaper, Skits Vicious e Dopey Rotten – e il producer/dj Peter Chimunja Songolo, sono stati in grado di fondere l’Hard Core Rap made in Usa con le Bassline Dubstep & Grime made in Uk. Il risultato sono big tune come ‘What Happened’ che punta ai 5 milioni di visualizzazioni. Con il nuovo video ‘Gatekeeper’s con Fred Durst dei Limp Bizkit e Jonathan Davis dei Korn che fanno le loro apparizioni del video. Dopo aver pubblicato nel 2008 l’album di debutto ‘Fountain Of Death’ esclusivamente online, è giunta l’era della consacrazione con ‘Branded’. Sono stati la band di supporto per Limp Bizkit, Wu-Tang Clan, Sean Price e Dead Prez. Sono ora al loro primo tour europeo.

MESHUGGAH
‘Koloss’-CD

Parlar male dei Meshuggah è impossibile. Ok, ne sono consapevole. Ma almeno posso affermare che l’ultimo ‘Koloss’ non mi ha sbalordito come mi aspettavo? Cioè, si tratta pur sempre di una questione di lana caprina: altre band (la maggior parte del panorama death mondiale, ma anche metal in senso più generale, e perfino rock in accezione cosmica) se li sognano album a questi livelli. Tecnica sopraffina, intuizioni accecanti, architetture sonore sbalorditive, prospettive progressive, sviluppi contagiosi. Il problema, semmai ce ne fosse uno, è sempre che il seguito di un capolavoro come il precedente ‘ObZen’ (inchino) genera attese, speranze, ansie e delusioni. E i quattro anni di attesa non hanno fatto altro che amplificare tutto questo. Ora, però, non fraintendete le mie parole e soprattutto i miei numeri: 3,5 su 5 è calibrato sulla “scala Meshuggah”; cioè un 3,5 affibbiato all’ensemble svedese rappresenta una quota che altri gruppi non solo non raggiungono oggi, ma che non saranno in grado di raggiungere mai, nel corso della loro intera (misera, a confronto) carriera. Così come non potranno mai comporre sinfonie sublimi e crudeli come ‘The Demon’s Name Is Surveillance’ o ‘Demiurge’. I Meshuggah sono oltre.

‘Fakes From Another Place’-CD

Il ritorno dei Post li vede passare dall’italiano all’inglese, e questo porta la loro wave venata di post-punk a crescere in credibilità e rigore. Non mi credete? Provate ad ascoltare ‘Wait’ e poi ditemi se non è il singolo che i Killers (o gli Editors, fa lo stesso) dovrebbero scrivere se volessero conquistare i veri intenditori di rock. Con questo non voglio dire che ‘Non Mi Confondere’ (posta in chiusura) sia meno efficace (in questo caso la parolina da far seguire a “post” è semplicemente “rock”, ma nel senso di quelle cose rallentate islandesi che conosciamo bene), ma potrebbe non essere un caso che le vocals di Gio Franco sono sprofondate in un oceano di filtri e alterazioni. Se volete la pulizia fate girare nel lettore la traccia 4 ‘Closer To An End’, se desiderate ritmica cliccate sulla numero 1 ‘Absent Life’, se volete ritrovarvi a saltellare per strada scegliete la 5 ‘Overlooking’, con quell’infinito giro gommoso di basso che apre la strada alla chitarrina aggressiva. Non fraintendetemi: il combo torinese non inventa una beneamata mazza, ma sappiamo fin troppo bene che il Rock è morto, defunto, sepolto, e un album come ‘Fakes From Another Place’ è solo un pretesto per celebrare nel migliore dei modi il caro estinto.

BAD WEATHER PROJECT
‘Incoming Twister’-CD

Il modo di scrivere hard-rock dei Bad Weather Project sembra arrivare pari pari dal periodo storico/musicale che segna il passaggio tra lo scintillio degli anni ottanta e la sporcizia dei depressi paladini del grunge dei primi anni novanta. Uno strano disco dal sapore poco contemporaneo, quindi, non solo per il songwriting, ma anche e soprattutto per registrazione e arrangiamenti, i quali fanno spesso ricorso ad archetipi di quel periodo, spostandosi dal rock più sanguigno e lineare dell’opener-track ‘Bloody Mary’ e della successiva ‘Strange Tribe’, alle direttive muscolari di ‘Fairy In Red’, nella quale il basso slappato sembra gettare un ponte in grado di collegare l’air-metal al crossover, fino alle urgenze quasi punk di ‘SuperSucker’. ‘No Angels’, poi, si presenta come una ballata d’altri tempi, perfetto strada di mezzo tra i Metallica post-Black Album e i Guns’N’Roses (questi ultimi ritornano più volte all’interno del disco). Il quintetto piemontese non presenta difetti evidenti, a parte una sensazione di acerbità che affiora di tanto in tanto (tipo la pronuncia inglese, oppure l’uso irritante del trivio, o ancora una certa prolissità di fondo). Manca un po’ di maturità, ma la strada è quella giusta.

MORFEO CROLLA
‘La Strada Nella Casa’-CD

Il disco di debutto dei Morfeo Crolla è parecchio ruffiano. La band con sede a Milano dimostra di sapere bene come si scrive una canzone allo scopo di infilarla in testa, anche se la forma (qualche volta) si avvicina a quanto già realizzato dai Negramaro (mi scusino, non voglio insultare). In virtù di questo, ‘La Strada Nella Casa’ potrebbe facilmente essere stroncato (anche perché l’impianto sonoro pare proprio mainstream), ed invece io scopro un disco vivace, suonato con estro graffiante e/o misura vibrante (secondo il caso), in cerca di approdi melodici piuttosto immediati ai quali perviene (bontà sua) con estrema facilità. È evidente che un pezzo come ‘Social Killer’ (e relativo video) avrebbe solo bisogno di essere passato e ripassato in radio e tv per diventare il tormentone della prossima estate italiana. L’altro modo di leggere un disco del genere, viceversa, può essere il sottolineare l’estrema perizia tecnica, musicale, di scrittura, di registrazione (è un’autoproduzione ma gode di un sound perfetto, produzione della band stessa); e anche il fatto che ognuno è libero di suonare ciò che vuole, di mirare al successo di massa (contingente o meno) e di fanculare tutti i critici (scriventi o meno) di questo mondo.
