In questo breve trailer potete farvi una prima idea di quanto impegno e devozione gli skater DC Europe abbiamo dedicato a questo progetto. 2 anni di viaggi e filming che coronano l’impegno del “Collettivo Europeo”, la divisione dello skateboard team DC dedicata al Vecchio Continente. Bruno Abally, Jody Smith, Anthony Lopez, Ruben Garcia, Manuel Mergreiter, Michael Sommer, Madar Apse, Javier Paredes e Josef Scott Jatta sono i protagonisti di questo progetto che vedrà la luce nei prossimi mesi.

Protest Snowboard Video 2012

Per l’inverno 2012 Protest Boardwear ha deciso di focalizzare tutte le attività del suo snowboard pro team sulle produzioni video lanciando 2 serie di podcast: il nuovissimo podcast ‘Protest Jocker’ e la serie ‘Learn How to Snowboard’. ‘Protest Jocker’ è un “real life snowboard game” in cui i rider internazionali del team Protest si sfidano uno contro l’altro in una battaglia di trick. 51 carte per 51 sfide in cui il rider sconfitto dovrà affrontare una delle 51 punizioni ideate per questo podcast. La prima puntata di ‘Protest Jocker’ è stata rilasciata proprio oggi, martedì 21 febbraio 2012: lo sconfitto ha dovuto tuffarsi nel ghiacciato lago di Ginevra in pieno inverno. Ogni settimana verrà pubblicato una nuova puntata.

Il giovane talento di San Vincenzo vestirà le scarpe del famoso brand fondato da Ken Block e Damon Way

Angelo Bonomelli, 20 anni, surfer del team Volcom Europe, SuperBrand Surfboards, Dakine, Xcel e SurfToLive, è entrato nel team DC shoes. Dopo aver raccolto un ottimo dodicesimo posto nel campionato ASP Pro Junior 2011, con ottimi risultati e aver attirato su di se l’attenzione dei media internazionali per il suo stile e per il suo carisma, Angelo ha deciso di cominciare già nella scorsa stagione l’esperienza dei WQS, passando la prima heat della tappa di Zarautz. Portogallo, Spagna, Canarie, Francia, Inghilterra e Italia sono stati i trip europei di Angelo, senza dimenticare l’esperienza alle Hawaii con il battesimo di Pipeline.
Queste le parole di Angelo, tra una session di surf ed una di studio in Costa Rica: “Sono entusiasta di esser entrato nel team DC Shoes, un marchio molto stiloso e che crede a fondo negli action sport. Nyjah Huston vince 3 Transworld Skateboarding Awards 2012

Lo skater DC Nyjah Huston è stato il protagonista assoluto della quattordicesima edizione dei TWS Awards 2012 vincendo le categorie Best Video Park, Best Street e Readers’ Choice. Premiato anche Wes Kramer come Best Rookie dell’anno grazie alle 2 video part, una cover di TWS e la sua attitudine positiva. L’uscita su I-Tunes di ‘Rise & Shine’ solo-part di Nyjah lo scorso 11.11.11 ha lasciato il mondo dello skate a bocca aperta con handrail enormi, skating ipertecnico e cadute assurde, garantendogli un posto nella wall of fame. Le 2 cover di TWS nel 2011 e la moltitudine di interviste pubblicate sono solo alcuni dei motivi per cui gli è stato anche assegnato il premio Best Street. I lettori ti TWS hanno assegnato direttamente con il loro voto un terzo premio a Nyjah: Readers’ Choice. Con questi 3 trofei, Nyjah eguaglia il record siglato da Guy Mariano nel 2008 che conquistò esattamente gli stessi awards.

We’ve hooked up UK surfer Charlotte Bayliss from Jersey into the Nikita fold. She’s studying a Physiotherapy Degree at Cardiff University and is a member of the Jersey Surfboard club, the uni’s surf club and part of the new initiative, Student Surf Tour which she won in 2011. Il rider DC ed Union-Bindings Manuel Pietropoli è uno degli italiani in gara ai World Snowboarding Championships 2012 di Oslo, Norvegia. Fino a ieri Manuel ha gareggiato nell’Halfpipe arrivando fino ai quarti, ed oggi Venerdì 15 febbraio, prenderà parte al Quarterpipe Contest nella nuova arena dell’Holmenkollen. Manuel è altamente specializzato nella disciplina del Quarterpipe, una delle più spettacolari nello snowboard. Nel 2008 ai 6star TTR O’Neill Evolution di Davos, Svizzera, Manuel conquisto l’highest air dell’evento superando gli 8m di altezza e superando il precedente record della manifestazione segnato niente meno che da Terje Haakonsen. The Greatwhite Surf Series went down this past weekend at 26th Street in sunny Santa Cruz, Ca. We pulled up to the beach in the morning as the sun peeked over the mountains and lit up the Pacific Ocean. Our Jaws hit the floor as a meaty 6-8 ft approached. So we gathered the parents and competitors to make a decision and it was a unanimous, we were a go! We signed up over a 100 competitors and sent the Juniors in the water for their early morning beat down. As the day progressed on the waves just got better and better. There was never a breeze over 3 MPH and before we knew it, it was time for some delicious Chipotle burritos. After the competitors had their fill of surf and food it was time to crown a Champ!

Torstein Horgmo è uno dei freestyle snowboarder più progressivi degli ultimi anni, entrato a far parte del DC Global Pro Team nel 2010. Ha già conquistato il suo posto nella hall of fame dello snowboarding internazionale chiudendo il primo triple cork della storia e le sue videoparti annuali hanno sempre lasciato il segno. Il carismatico pro snowboarder DC Torstein Horgmo, di origine Norvegese ha scelto la nuova PLY come suo primo Pro Model nell’unica misura 150.5. Questo modello propone una inedita tecnologia con uno shape Twin Skate ed un approccio costruttivo totalmente ispirato allo skate. Il risultato è uno snowboard che si usa come uno skateboard sulla neve. La PLY ha una geometria totalmente twin e una meccanica ispirata agli ollie ed agli agganci dei rail tipici delle tavole da skate. The Peanut Butter and Rail Jam Tour set it’s hook deep in the lip of 2012! The first catch took place on Saturday, January 7th at Sierra at Tahoe. It was not an easy day for fishing. The winds were howling but that didn’t stop the hundreds of competitors that came out to throw down for a piece of the PBRJ glory.

This year’s contest consisted of a long down tube, a down-flat-down tube, and a “cannon” to barrel bonk. We soon came to know why they referred to this pole jam as a cannon. Competitors were blasting casual 30 foot airs out and over the barrel.

If there were any doubts that 15 and under division could handle the cannon, they were quickly put to rest. The Sierra patronage were privy to bare witness to an onslaught of tweaks, 180s, and 3s being blasted out of the cannon. Liam Loftis did work on the down tube and impressed all with a backside 180 swivel to 270 out earning him 2nd place. It was Josh Douglas who clamed victory with a front 3 out of the cannon and a switch 270 gap to the down section of the kinked rail.

With the standard set high, it was time for the 16 and over division to take the stage. They didn’t disappoint either, this is where we saw some beautiful front boardslides through the kink, back flips out of the cannon, and 360s out of the down tube. It was Jordan Welter that took home first but Griffin Lancaster and Paul Aloisi were nipping at his heels and took home 2nd and 3rd respectively. Good show gentlemen.

Tweaking it out there!

The ladies were up next and if you wanna talk about an exciting aspect of snowboarding, let’s talk about women’s progression. These girls are stepping it up. Julianne Brackett got everyone’s attention when she sent the biggest air of the day out of the cannon. Not to mention she was sending it backside 180! This and a front board 270 out of the down tube secured a 3rd place finish. Fancy Rutherford took home 2nd place and long time PBRJ veteran Becky Bruce locked down 1st. Check the video for Becky‘s nose press to back 180 out on the down tube! Excited to see what these ladies will bring to the Champs.

We ended the day with the largest and most diverse division; with over 50 Open competitors and representing all corners of the earth. Rider’s hailing from places like Argentina, Switzerland, Vermont, Iowa, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Nevada, Minnesota, and of course California. Serious representation. They must have heard about the $20,000 championships in Mammoth. Rising from the wind scoured slopes it was the kid from Colchester, Vermot that took home gold. Sawyer Deen not only took first at this year’s PBRJ he also won Electric’s Gooeyest Move of the Event.; $300 bucks and a ton of gear. Not a bad days work. Congrats Mr. Deen!

A huge thanks goes out to the peeps at Sierra for hosting this year’s PBRJ. Katie Hunter, Misty, Doug Mercer, Benny, and the rest of the terrain park staff were all champions for all their hard work with making this year’s PBRJ a success. The Goldfish Surf Series went nuts this weekend at Pismo Pier! After canceling the previous weekend due to severe stormy weather we rolled the dice and ran the event on the following weekend, and man did it pay-off. We pulled up the pier in the morning to zero winds and solid waist to head high waves. Once the tent city was erected and the over anxious Groms were signed up, we kicked this thing with a bang.

Bummy Keopenick lost early but was in great spirits all day playing with his air gun!

The day graced us with a temperature of 75 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. The kids ran around like maniacs all day and the parents cursed our names as we brought out the chocolate syrup and flour. After everyone got their fill of delicious Chipotle it was time to roll into the final and crown a winner! Check out the recap from the day’s event.

The crowd was going nuts all day, one Grom even walked away with the Watermelon award given to the craziest kid!

I riders Union dominano Supernatural

Supernatural, il contest più atteso della stagione, si è concluso con la vittoria di Travis Rice, rider Union e DC, seguito al secondo posto da Gigi Ruf, anche lui team rider Union Binding. L’evento, ospitato a Nelson, B.C. Canada, è stato unico nel suo genere. Durante l’estate Travis Rice ed il suo team hanno costruito oltre 100 ostacoli nei backcountry del noto resort canadese. Non c’è stato training ed il terreno era nuovo per tutti i rider, che potevano solo osservarlo con i cannocchiali da valle. L’intero format si basava sul concetto di leggere la montagna ed usare i suoi ostacoli “naturali” nel miglior modo possibile, esattamente come nelle session video professionali.

Peetu Piroiinen vince ancora una volta l’Air & Style

Peetu Piroiinen vince il Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck-Tirol 2012 seguito da Seppe Smits (BEL) e Niklas Mattsson (SWE). Seppe Smits, quasi meravigliato, porta a casa il titolo di TTR Big Air Champion 2012. Questa serata verrà ricordata per molto tempo per le sfide che hanno tenuto gli spettatori senza fiato fino all’ultima run e per i numeri da capogiro, a partire dal -20, la temperatura toccata questa sera e 12500, le persone presenti allo Stadio Bergisel. Nella super finale Peetu Piroiinen manda tutti a casa grazie ad un perfetto Backside 1260 Mute Grab (91.70 points) battendo Seppe Smits (91.13) e Niklas Mattsson (89.53), il rider che ha compiuto più run in tutta la serata arrivando dalle qualifiche iniziate nel pomeriggio. Salendo sul secondo gradino del podio Seppe Smits guadagna così tanti punti TTR che viene proclamato ufficialmente TTR World Tour Big Air Champion 2012. Il perfetto kicker costruito allo stadio Bergisel in occasione dell’Air & Style è stato l’arena di uno spettacolare show fatto di un incredibile livello di riding, musica ed emozioni che solo l’Air & Style ci regala dal lontano 1993. La folla presente questa sera non hai mai smesso di divertirsi grazie allo show dei rider intervenuti e alle performance live di Sido ed i Beatsteaks.

I fans italiani intervenuti hanno potuto godersi solo in parte lo show dell’unico rider italiano presente allo Stadio Bergisel: il 17enne Marco Grigis, dopo diversi giorni di training con i più forti rider al mondo, è stato costretto a non partecipare alla gara di qualifica a causa di una brutta caduta durante l’ultimo training prima del contest. Ma il suo nome accompagnato dalla bandiera italiana era presente nella standing lists e ci auguriamo di vederlo anche nella prossima edizione dell’Air & Style.

The Air & Style, Innsbruck 2012 has officially started, as the riders’ list is drawn for tomorrow’s action (Saturday the 4th of February). Ulrik will meet one of Finland’s finest, Eero Ettala. Staale and Werni’s opponents will be decided at the Bergseil stadium tomorrow when they are pitted against two of the qualifiers, one of which could be burn Rider Marco Grigis. With the 8m rail set and can obstacle finally finished, today was the first serious training day that the Air & Style riders could get a feel for the big air and burn jib area. Swedish snowboarder, Noa Gadelius was crowned winner of the Burn Fire and Steel contest last night in Innsbruck’s city centre at the official opening of the Air & Style 2012. Last night, European rippers, who had won wildcard entries by sending in winning video clips of their rail sessions , had the opportunity to compete against local stars and burn pros.

The burn ‘Stairset,’ featuring two 8m rails and a giant ‘shooter’ obstacle were shredded in a Cash for Tricks jam and a place in the head to head quarter final. In the four man super final it all came down to an exciting tie breaker. Finally Noa’s frontside lipslide 270 out on the burn shooter was just enough to pip wildcard contestant Iceland’s Gulli Gudmundsson to the overall title.

While the crowd watched from abnormally cold weather conditions of around -12, thousands of viewers tuned in from the comfort of their own home on the Air & Style LIVE stream. If you missed the action, check out the video from last nights event

Just before a burn Unit Signing Session, the Air & Style riders list for tonight’s action was also drawn. NORTH SHORE, Oahu – (Feb. 1st, 2012) – The final day of competition at the 2012 Volcom Pipe Pro ended in a spectacular showdown in the last 10-seconds of the 35-minute final with John Florence taking 1st place with a buzzer-beating 9.93 Backdoor barrel. His last wave, together with his earlier perfect 10-point ride, put his combined heat score at 19.93 out of a possible 20 to edge out former Pipe Pro Champion Jamie O’Brien in 2nd, Kai Barger in 3rd and Nate Yeomans in 4th. O’Brien held the lead for the majority of the final, only to see the top spot disappear in the last minute of the heat. With a minute to go, Florence paddled over and congratulated O’Brien. Then a dark line on the horizon caught his eye. One last wave stacked up on the Pipeline reef. Florence clawed his way past Jamie, over the ledge, under the lip and into the heat-winning tube ride – a 9.93 – to claim the $20,000 first prize and a custom warrior helmet trophy. “I wrote myself off half way through,” said Florence. “Kai and Jamie both had nines and eights. Jamie had two nines. I can’t believe it. Here at Pipe anything can happen. I surfed my first heat, then had my hand (injury) and tweaked my neck really bad and that was killing me. So I was seriously considering not continuing on. I got some work done on my neck, taped my hand up and it all worked out.” Back on the beach, O’Brien and Florence shook hands and O’Brien shook his head. “It hurts,” said Jamie, holding onto the runner-up $10,000 check. “You think you’re going to get first and you don’t. It’s OK. I got some really good scores and I put on a great performance, I felt. To me that means everything. I had a great time. I finally got in a good rhythm my last couple of heats. I enjoyed myself and it was a good day.” This event marks the second consecutive year that Florence and O’Brien have taken the number 1 and 2 spots at the Volcom Pipe Pro.

Also awarded today was the Todd Chesser Hard Charger Sportsmanship Award – presented to Costa Rica’s Carlos Munoz who posted the first perfect score of the event in the early rounds and finished in equal ninth place. As an added bonus, Electric’s “Perfect 10 Award” was given out to any surfer that locked in a 10-point ride during the event. Winners received $1,000 in cash, handed to them directly after their heats. Recipients included: Carlos Munoz (Costa Rica), Dylan Graves (Puerto Rico), Dusty Payne (Hawaii), Balaram Stack (New York) and John Florence (Hawaii). Bjorn Johnston Now Riding For SUPRA And KR3W
