The Greatwhite Surf Series went down this past weekend at 26th Street in sunny Santa Cruz, Ca. We pulled up to the beach in the morning as the sun peeked over the mountains and lit up the Pacific Ocean. Our Jaws hit the floor as a meaty 6-8 ft approached. So we gathered the parents and competitors to make a decision and it was a unanimous, we were a go! We signed up over a 100 competitors and sent the Juniors in the water for their early morning beat down. As the day progressed on the waves just got better and better. There was never a breeze over 3 MPH and before we knew it, it was time for some delicious Chipotle burritos. After the competitors had their fill of surf and food it was time to crown a Champ!

The Goldfish Surf Series went nuts this weekend at Pismo Pier! After canceling the previous weekend due to severe stormy weather we rolled the dice and ran the event on the following weekend, and man did it pay-off. We pulled up the pier in the morning to zero winds and solid waist to head high waves. Once the tent city was erected and the over anxious Groms were signed up, we kicked this thing with a bang.
Bummy Keopenick lost early but was in great spirits all day playing with his air gun!
The day graced us with a temperature of 75 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. The kids ran around like maniacs all day and the parents cursed our names as we brought out the chocolate syrup and flour. After everyone got their fill of delicious Chipotle it was time to roll into the final and crown a winner! Check out the recap from the day’s event.
The crowd was going nuts all day, one Grom even walked away with the Watermelon award given to the craziest kid!
The Juniors had tough heats all day, here is blue showing you how to advance!
A little bit of chocolate syrup and free grinds!
Charlie Faucett cracking this section on his way to the MUSCLE MILK $250.00!
Wyatt Walter earned the win in the Squids division that was packed with talent!
White showing us a textbook frontside turn!
The winners walked away with prizes from KICKER, RIVIERA SKATEBOARDS, FUTURE FINS, and many more!
Light winds and solid swell made it perfect for competitors to attempt airs like this!
Kilian Garland smacking one on his way to $600.00! Winning the contest and the Volt thrower!
We threw a bonus $100.00 in the mix for the Groms division and Kairi Noro took advantage!

John Florence Wins The 2012 Volcom Pipe Pro! Watch heat recaps at www.volcompipepro.com

NORTH SHORE, Oahu – (Feb. 1st, 2012) – The final day of competition at the 2012 Volcom Pipe Pro ended in a spectacular showdown in the last 10-seconds of the 35-minute final with John Florence taking 1st place with a buzzer-beating 9.93 Backdoor barrel. His last wave, together with his earlier perfect 10-point ride, put his combined heat score at 19.93 out of a possible 20 to edge out former Pipe Pro Champion Jamie O’Brien in 2nd, Kai Barger in 3rd and Nate Yeomans in 4th. O’Brien held the lead for the majority of the final, only to see the top spot disappear in the last minute of the heat. With a minute to go, Florence paddled over and congratulated O’Brien. Then a dark line on the horizon caught his eye. One last wave stacked up on the Pipeline reef. Florence clawed his way past Jamie, over the ledge, under the lip and into the heat-winning tube ride – a 9.93 – to claim the $20,000 first prize and a custom warrior helmet trophy. “I wrote myself off half way through,” said Florence. “Kai and Jamie both had nines and eights. Jamie had two nines. I can’t believe it. Here at Pipe anything can happen. I surfed my first heat, then had my hand (injury) and tweaked my neck really bad and that was killing me. So I was seriously considering not continuing on. I got some work done on my neck, taped my hand up and it all worked out.” Back on the beach, O’Brien and Florence shook hands and O’Brien shook his head. “It hurts,” said Jamie, holding onto the runner-up $10,000 check. “You think you’re going to get first and you don’t. It’s OK. I got some really good scores and I put on a great performance, I felt. To me that means everything. I had a great time. I finally got in a good rhythm my last couple of heats. I enjoyed myself and it was a good day.” This event marks the second consecutive year that Florence and O’Brien have taken the number 1 and 2 spots at the Volcom Pipe Pro.

Also awarded today was the Todd Chesser Hard Charger Sportsmanship Award – presented to Costa Rica’s Carlos Munoz who posted the first perfect score of the event in the early rounds and finished in equal ninth place. As an added bonus, Electric’s “Perfect 10 Award” was given out to any surfer that locked in a 10-point ride during the event. Winners received $1,000 in cash, handed to them directly after their heats. Recipients included: Carlos Munoz (Costa Rica), Dylan Graves (Puerto Rico), Dusty Payne (Hawaii), Balaram Stack (New York) and John Florence (Hawaii). A two-hour highlight program of the 2012 Volcom Pipe Pro will air on Fuel TV this Saturday at 7:30 PM EST/4:30 PM PST. For more information, check your local listings or go to www.fuel.tv. Special thanks to Electric Visual, TransWorld Surf, Kicker Audio, Fuel TV, Zico, Surfline.com, ASP Hawaii, Oceanic Time Warner Cable and everyone that helped out with the event.

Congratulazioni Kieren!!

Volcom Stone’s VQS Seaslug Surf Series – El Porto, Manhattan Beach, CA
The Seaslug Surf Series came alive this last weekend in the South Bay. El Porto, Manhattan Beach that is, and before sunrise there was a line of 30+ cars waiting in the dark for the parking lot gates to open. The light of day revealed that recent run off had formed the El Porto sand bars and along with 2-4ft surf made for psyching Groms that couldn’t wait to jump in the water. The rowdy bunch of kids wrestled their way through the day, attacked standout Chris Ward with Muscle Milk, and still found time to surf their heats. Check out all of the days events below!

Kevin was invited to the Gucci store in Beverly Hills for a custom fitting to make sure he had the perfect fitting tux. “I was honored to get recognized after all the hard work I have put in and really appreciate all the love and support,” said Kevin. “It felt good to be lookin’ so smooth!”

Quiksilver Versilia Surf Trophy – REPORT (FOTO E VIDEO)

The Blowfish portion of the VQS tour kicked off this past weekend in Oceanside, Ca. We reached the beach early in the dark and weren’t sure if we should cancel, thinking no one would show due to the weather. When the sun began to creep through the clouds we saw that there was solid 4-6 ft surf with perfect offshore winds and nearly 200 competitors waiting to sign up, the decision was a no brainer! The rain broke in the morning and we sent the Juniors into the pumping conditions and we were off and running! Check out the whole days events below.
Although the forecast called for rain and south winds, the conditions stayed favorable for a better part of the day!
After surfing through 72 competitors in the Pro-Am division, Gabe Garcia took the victory for the second year in a row!
Once again the VQS Blowfish event was blessed with fun waves!
Even with strong SE winds, there were still plenty of punts going down.
With over 200 competitors showing up for the event, there were still plenty of waves to go around for everyone.
The usual Grom antics kept the beach crowd amused!
Luke Rife clicks off a clean front side air on the North side of the jetty.
The winners with just a few of the many prizes they received.
David Suhadolnik prefers the South side of the jetty.
The rain held out for most of the day, but unloaded in the afternoon as the finals rolled around.

Volcom Stone’s VQS Starfish Surf Series – River Jetties, Newport Beach
The Volcom Qualifying Series made its 7th stop of the West Coast tour in beautiful Newport Beach, California! We pulled up in the morning and the waves were anything but stellar, but with nearly 230 kids and their families flocking to the tents it was go time! We set up the compound, took a shot of water from the river and sent the Juniors into the surf!
A beautiful day in Newport Beach, California!
While the early heats were in the water we realized we wouldn’t have enough daylight to finish! So we broke out the back-up judges and double beached it all day! With the day rolling along smooth as eggs, and the children’s bellies stuffed with delicious burritos from CHIPOTLE it was time to get the finals under way! Check out a recap below from the unbelievable event!
Kent Nishiya, a VQS veteran at the age of 15, gets ready to unload on one of the bigger ones of the day!
The morning was a little chaotic with 230 competitors but when things settled down it was game time!
Adam Lambert‘s smooth style would earn him 1st place in the Pro-Am and the Electric Volt Thrower award.
The waves were smaller then usual, but that didn’t stop these knuckle heads from ripping!
Alexa Frantz laying into one on her way to a solid 6th place finish!
The Squids had their work cut for them with 48 competitors in the event!
Kilian Garland took a respectable 2nd place and with a victory at this years Butterfish he locked in a spot at VQS champs!
VQS game time means down and dirty fun!

The Greatwhite Surf Series went off this past weekend in fun 4-6 ft conditions at world famous Steamer Lane. We arrived at the Lane in the pitch black and the freezing cold we were already greeted by frothing children ready to get their surf on! The sun began to rise and with everyone ready to go we through the Grom’s into the water and sounded the horn.
The waves were a solid 4-6 ft with clean conditions all day.
The crowd filled in and took over the West Cliff Drive by mid morning. With the burritos on the way from Chipotle and the people were ready to get their eat on. The day rolled along perfect and before we new it, it was time for the finals. The finalists were so pumped to get their hands on the heaps of prizes from ELECTRIC VISUAL, GLOBE SHOES, and many more.
Randy “The Kid” Bonds showing off his famous backside attack!
Little Kei the man with the most questions ever, squaring up on what looks to be an 8 footer on him!
The Judges look on while local boy Nat Young takes apart this wave in the finals.
Nat Young won the Electric Volt Thrower Move and Pro-Am win, earning himself a cool $600.00 and bag of goodies.
All day fun at the Greatwhite with Ryan Buell and friends.
The waves off the “Slot” consistently set up for a perfect air sections next to the cliff!
This group of Squids was so talented they refused to surf down the point and instead charged straight into the line-up.
Austin Smith-Ford blowing the back out of one!
The younger divisions have been showing their teeth all year.
Kyle Buthman is about to give Shaun Burns a Santa Cruz shower!
Shaun Burns just got in as an alternate and had a great showing, but just fell short of the finals.

Angelo Bonomelli ‘End Of Summer’ video
