DR. MARTENS ANNOUNCE NEW BLACK SABBATH COLLECTION, PAYING TRIBUTE TO THEIR 60 YEAR ANNIVERSARY AND MARKING 50 YEARS SINCE SABBATH’S DEBUT RECORDS.

In the year of our 60th anniversary, Dr Martens’s paying tribute to iconic musicians, artists and creatives who hold an important place in history. As “the godfathers of heavy metal”, Black Sabbath’s ties with Dr. Martens run deep. In the first collaboration (collaboration brought together by Bravado, Universal Music Group’s industry-leading merchandise and brand management company), DM spotlight the iconic artwork of their first two albums: ‘Black Sabbath’ and ‘Paranoid’. Before there was metal, there was Black Sabbath. Everything about their sound (and spirit) tore from the status quo. Smashing out raw, distorted riffs and tight, one-take recordings, Sabbath torched the rulebook and upended the scene. When their rst two records landed, 7 months apart, in 1970, they set the tone for a new era of music. This year, their groundbreaking albums celebrate their joint 50th anniversaries, as DM mark its 60th. And they’re marking the shared milestones with an exclusive collaboration — featuring the unmistakable artwork shot and designed by ‘Keef’ (Keith McMillan).

Dr. Martens x Black Sabbath is a celebration of shared heritage: heavy metal and the subversive style that came with it. The 1460 Sabbath boot is splashed with the iconic graphic from the band’s eponymous debut and kitted out with purple popped eyelets, at braided laces and core Docs markings. Through the laces is a ‘Henry’ badge — the iconic flying devil/angel that’s become synonymous with Sabbath over the years.

The 1461 Sabbath shoe is built with the same eyelets, ‘Henry’ motif and heel loop, but pays tribute to their second album ‘Paranoid’. The album artwork is digitally printed on the ankle, and the 3-eye shoe is finished with embossed Black Sabbath lettering on the vamp. The collection will be available from 1st October at drmartens.com and select distributors.

ABOUT DR. MARTENS
The first pair of Dr. Martens boots rolled off the production line on the 1st April 1960. With its trademark yellow stitch, grooved sole and heel-loop, it was a boot for workers, initially worn by postmen and policemen; comfortable, durable and lightweight in comparison to its competitors at the time. Throughout Dr. Martens history, the brand has been adopted and subverted by diverse individuals, musicians, youth cultures and tribes. These are the people who stand out from the crowd and their journey of self-expression has always been accompanied by a pair of DM’s. The simple silhouette allows people to customise each pair; whilst on a utilitarian level their famous durability and comfort make them ideal footwear for the world of gigs and street fashion. On an emotional level, they are a ag of attitude and empowerment. The Northamptonshire factory where it all began still exists to this day, in the village of Wollaston. A specific range of “Made In England” products are manufactured here by a small, close-knit team of people schooled in traditional shoe-making and the unique process that makes Dr. Martens like no other shoe on earth.
