Futura and André in Paris, December 15

Futura and André in Paris, December 15
Salad Days

André x Futura: Chez Nous is an exhibition born from the artists’ common desire to paint together, cross paths and share their worlds.

André and Futura have in common the same virtuosity, a great vivacity and a perfect mastery when they have a spray can in their hand. Their signature styles are distinctive, yet come from a common underground culture that made them legends, each in their own right.

Sharing the same energy, they initiated together this four-hand exhibition, in which they present a series of unseen works, where they answer each other and merge their gestures. Futura’s otherworldly characters, such as Pointman, echo André’s Mr A. dancing figures, as if their pictorial alter ego were enjoying themselves as much as both artists did in this adventure.

Saturday, December 15, from 6pm to 9pm
Rue Amelot 78

For this occasion, Drago published Futura 2000 | Full Frame, a wonderful 240-page volume, the first ever to bring together the fruits of his extraordinary and legendary creativity in one place. With a rich collection of photographs, this coffee table book presents Futura’s work from his early beginnings to his current work.

The so-called father of abstract graffiti started out in the 1970s “bombing” the trains of his hometown New York. He later transferred this style into paintings on canvas and was praised by the likes of Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. With them, Futura 2000 has been a major influencer of youth culture through his collaborations with iconic brands like Nike, Levi’s, Vans, Hennessey, Medicom Toys as well as with his own brand Futura Laboratories. For the past 40 years, he has continually been pushing the boundaries of street art.

“As an abstract graffiti artist, Futura opened the door to a new form of creativity, paving the road for the most important art movement of the century to blossom. His contribution and the way he inspired then generations of street artists turned him into an American legend.” – Madga Danysz
