SHAWNA POTTER (WAR ON WOMEN) LAUNCHES ‘BUT HER LYRICS…’ PODCAST
Salad Days

Listen to the first episode now on streaming platforms. / Check out War On Women’s new album ‘Wonderful Hell’, out now on Bridge Nine.

Join Shawna Potter, front person of the punk band War On Women, as she takes a deep dive into the lyrics and politics of the band’s latest album ‘Wonderful Hell’, on the inaugural episode of her new podcast ‘But Her Lyrics…’. On the bi-monthly podcast, Potter will chat with bandmates, interview experts and activists on relevant social justice issues, and share inspirations and stories behind the album. The ‘But Her Lyrics…’ podcast is for fans of War On Women as well as folks interested in feminism, politics, punk, music composition, writing, and more. On the first episode get to know Shawna‘s goals and reasons behind starting this adventure and look at an introduction to the entire season of the podcast. In her interview with journalist and author Mike Damante, they talk about incorporating a punk rock philosophy in the classroom and how punk rock shaped their politics.

War On Women released ‘Wonderful Hell’ last month to great critical acclaim. Recorded with the band’s guitarist and co-founder Brooks Harlan alongside J. Robbins at his Magpie Cage Studios in February 2020 and completed in April (when in a COVID-19-free timeline the band would have been on tour with Bad Religion), ‘Wonderful Hell’ is the first War On Women album to feature the band’s current lineup of Potter, Harlan, bassist/vocalist Sue Werner, guitarist/vocalist Jennifer “Jenarchy” Vito, and drummer Dave Cavalier. Like War On Women’s previous albums, ‘Wonderful Hell’ includes anthemic songs that tackle systemic racism, acknowledge the natural feelings of wanting to give up or self-destruct in the face of insurmountable adversity, and some that aim straight at the jugular of gender disparity.
