Vans Shop Riot Series 2017 – Czech Rep qualifying results
For the first time in its 9-year history, Vans Shop Riot headed to Poruba skatepark, Ostrava.
With great weather and strong support from the local community this was an ideal setting for a riot. To start the day, a contest for future pros was introduced to allow kids to get a taste of chaos, then unique to the schedule was an epic skate deathrace in which Tomas Stejskal managed to come through unscathed and claim the top prize. Overall, 14 shop teams competed with the top 8 making it onto the quarterfinals. This round showcased some of the Czech Republic’s brightest young skaters with eyebrow raising performances from the likes of The Chill and Darkslide.
Onto the semifinals, here we saw StreetMarket go board to board with Picnic “B” whilst Mystic faced off against Picnic Skateshop. It was clear from the beginning that both Picnic & StreetMarket would be too strong for the others to compete against, therefore that left them to battle it out in the final. With a huge local support, Picnic hit the rails early with Aleš Jež, Michal Jež and Jirka Houka all throwing down impressive tricks. However, StreetMarkets experienced trio of Richie Tury, Martin Pek and Pepa Tipanic were just to consistent and mistake free on the day, making them the deserved winners, and guaranteeing a spot in the finals taking place later this year.
