ANNUNCIA L’EP DI DEBUTTO ‘AWAY’ IN USCITA IL 7 NOVEMBRE VIA DOMINO.

Inspired by Jaime (Margate-based electronic artist and producer)’s time moving from rural Kent to South London, the ‘Away’ EP explores the tension between movement and stillness, community and solitude, urban intensity and coastal calm. It was recorded across both locations, using his characterful hardware synthesisers and sample-heavy approach as a way of processing his surroundings. House, soul and dub form the foundations, morphed into something wholly singular through Jaime‘s own psychedelic production style. “When you’re leaving something behind – whether it’s a city, a relationship, or a chapter of life – you carry both the rush of possibility and the melancholy of loss” Jaime reflects. “That contrast is at the heart of this EP. I was searching for the sonic meeting point between two homes; what they sounded like, felt like, and symbolised to me.” It arrives alongside the release of ‘Frames’; lush, soulful keys and drumbeats are intricately layered with Jaime’s soft vocals. Lyrically, it explores he’s first experiences of London nightlife as an outsider, through a spaced-out, introspective vision of wonder. He is an electronic artist and producer who makes music that is experimental and groove-heavy, rooted in his love of UK soundsystem culture. He’s also supported the likes of Eris Drew, Marshall Jefferson and Awesome Tapes From Africa, already cementing himself as an artist to watch on the UK dance scene. One of the founding members of Social Records Society, the collective that puts on regular vinyl-only nights at venues such as Café 1001, Corsica Studios and The Carpet Shop, Jaime has also recently released a psychedelic acid remix of Katy J Pearson’s ‘Save Me’ and completed a Balamii residency. Artist’s music blurs nostalgia, his clubland influences and his own voice through a sample-heavy, psychedelic lens. Reflective of his playful disposition, it’s the kind of left-field pop that’s instantly memorable, always keeping one foot on the dancefloor.

“I was instantly drawn to clubs and the feeling of being enveloped by sound, but as a newcomer to the environment, I felt separate, self-aware. I was in awe of the people in the scene who seemed to know the rules inside and out, the characters effortlessly commanding the attention of the room. Casting a spell on the dancefloor, moving under the strobes like the club was built especially for them. Add the haze-filled atmospherics of a midsummer night out, and that image became a memorable one for me. I wrote ‘Frames’ whilst that vision was still spinning around my head.” says Jaime.
