Salad Days

New York, NY – January 09, 2025 – NYC ska/reggae legends The Slackers have recently announced their first batch of tourdates for 2026…

… featuring dates in Mexico, the East Coast & Southwest of the USA, and Western Canada, with many more to come! Since late 2025, the band have been busy, touring relentlessly as well as releasing both a 5-song EP of new material called ‘Money Is King’ available via Pirates Press Records on vinyl, streaming on all major platforms, and via Bandcamp! On EP, band return with their biggest batch of all-new studio recordings since 2022’s Billboard charting hit album ‘Don’t Let The Sunlight Fool Ya’. The new five song EP presents stories about our times from a variety of perspectives. The title track is a cover written by legendary Calypsonian Neville Marcano, AKA the “Growling Tiger.” Its lyrics are as relevant today as they were when it was written back in 1935: “If a man has money and wealth, they don’t care if he’s the devil himself.” With the other four songs on the EP – ‘The Whole World Was In On It’, ‘Hold On’, ‘Try to Break Me Down’, and ‘No One Likes The Truth’ – The Slackers add original stories drawn from the zeitgeist of our times. Politics and history menacing the peoples’ everyday life. Trying to hold on to hope amongst the chaos. Each of these four originals was composed by a different band member: guitarist Jayson “Agent Jay” Nugent, trombonist & vocalist Glen Pine, saxophonist David Hillyard, and vocalist & multi-instrumentalist Vic Ruggiero, respectively. Each member brings their own unique perspective and their own style to the stories, so it sounds like a collection, sewn together by the cohesion and unity of one of underground music’s tightest combos. Along with the celebrated rhythm section of bassist Marcus Geard and drummer Ara Babajian, and joined by frequent collaborator Larry McDonald on additional percussion, group laid down these five songs at New Jersey’s Shillelagh Studios with Marc Critelli running the board. Mixing was done in São Paolo, Brazil at Studio Duke by longtime friend & producer (and multiple Latin Grammy winner) Victor Rice, and the final master was handled by Fernando Sanches at São Paulo’s Estudio El Rocha. It is available from Pirates Press Records on 12” Kelly Green Cloudy Vinyl or 12” Gold Nugget Vinyl. Both versions have the EP artwork – by the band’s in-house artist & designer Catt Gould – UV Printed directly onto the vinyl on the B-side. Look for it wherever fine ska/reggae vinyl is sold! The EP is also available streaming on all major platforms and via Bandcamp.
