Built around a more immediate, bass-led framework, ‘Burning From’ pairs Farrell’s production with Goya Gumbani’s self-assured delivery – the Brooklyn-born, now London-based artist bringing a blend of both scenes into the track, drawing on a sound shaped by New York’s underground rap and soul and subtly reworking it within a London club context. The result feels open and collaborative, setting the tone for what’s to follow across ‘Birds Fly In’. Oscar Farrell returns with a brand new single and announces details of his third EP ‘Birds Fly In’, set for release on June 5th via dh2. The track arrives alongside a new video directed by Pablo Gallegos. The accompanying video reflects that same energy – a collage-like, jittering sequence centred around Balfron Tower, the Ernő Goldfinger-designed Brutalist landmark in East London, grounding the release in a distinctly London visual language. Since emerging with his debut EP ‘I’ve Already Called’, Farrell has steadily built a catalogue that moves between club functionality and something more personal. With ‘Birds Fly In’, that world continues to widen – bringing new voices into the fold and pushing further into the spaces these records now occupy.
To mark the EP release, Farrell returns to East London’s The Glove That Fits on April 17th for a special club night alongside Lil Silva, Jeshi and Goya Gumbani. Earlier this month, Farrell also appeared on BBC Radio 1 as part of dh2’s residency, delivering a back-to-back mix with George Daniel – a first for the station and another marker of his growing profile. The live show momentum continues with Farrell joining the dh2 lineup for a special Primavera party on June 3rd – appearing alongside George Daniel, Josh Caffé, Kelly Lee Owens and Surusinghe – but not before playing London for Gala Festival on May 22nd, where he plays a back-to-back set with George Daniel on a lineup that includes Facta & K-LONE, Or:la, Pariah and Paranoid London ft. Josh Caffé.
