Perfect 100 shares new song ‘Sunday’
Announces debut EP due out 07/21 via bloody knuckles – fuzzed-out guitar pop bliss. FFO: Dinosaur Jr, Ovlov, Swirlies, Happy Diving. Upcoming NYC shows.
Perfect 100 is a new band led by Brooklyn-based musician Andrew Madore, and they’re announcing their self-titled debut EP, arriving July 21st from bloody knuckles. Packing massive, blown-out guitars, gauzy textures, and hooks for days, these four tracks are a must-listen for fans of all things loud and catchy, band are properly introducing themselves with the EP’s lead single ‘Sunday’ a fittingly perfect cut of fuzz pop gold. The song kicks off with guitars so huge you might think you’re listening to Kevin Shields and J Mascis trying to outdo one another, but even through the distortion onslaught it’s Madore‘s incredible knack for melody that really stands out. ‘Perfect 100′ was mostly recorded by Madore at home in his apartment, with drums performed by Adam Wanetik and tracked by Ryan Accardi at Eusonia Studios. Everything was then mixed and mastered by loud music mastermind Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr, Speedy Ortiz, Supercrush), resulting in a charmingly raw set of crunchy rock songs. Noisy guitars contrasted by sugary melodies and heart-on-sleeve lyricism is a tried and true formula but ‘Perfect 100′ are poised to stand above the pack by simply pushing that dichotomy as far as possible: these guitars are properly speaker-destroying, these hooks and harmonies are profoundly irresistible. So whether you’re a indie rocker, a shoegazer, or a power popper—‘Perfect 100′ might be your new favorite band. The music might be effortlessly appealing but Madore‘s lyrics delve into themes of dependency and alcoholism with affable vulnerability, as evidenced by tracks like ‘Sunday’. “I stopped drinking last year after spending most of my 20s drinking every single day” Madore explains. “Most people at some point in their lives have a relationship with something or someone that consumes their thoughts and conversations–and for the longest time, alcohol occupied that space for me. I wrote this song to try and grapple with the dichotomy of the highs and lows of that relationship, which ultimately caused so much more pain than joy.”
