REBEL8 X BLASPHEMY
REBEL8 has worked with Blasphemy on Issue Eight—a black-and-white zine rooted in nostalgia, showcasing photographs of San Francisco–style writing from the late 1990s.
Cover artwork by Mike Giant. “A couple years back, @blasphemyzine kept showing up on my feed. The photos looked weirdly familiar. Long story short, before REBEL8—back when I was still in high school—I started HiFiArt, a website dedicated to San Francisco Graffiti. With some friends, I dumped thousands of photos from 1998–2003 online and ended up sharing them with people all over the world. On Blasphemy’s IG, I started seeing the exact same photos from HiFiArt. So I hit them up and said: -Love your magazine-. Over the decades, so many people have pulled HiFiArt photos and reposted them as their own that I’ve just become comfortably numb to it. They instantly replied asking for a shipping address so they could send a few copies. I posted the photo below to my story. They replied and signed off the DM, “Wesky” a moniker I’ll remember forever. I had zero clue that Blasphemy Zine was the brainchild of Ricky Watts, a friend from the HiFi days. Without hesitation, I shot back that we had to do something with REBEL8 and Mike Giant. Flash forward to today—here we are. Inside the zine, Ricky pretty much sums up how we first met, and I’ll let that story live with the people who actually buy it. What I’ve written here is just to add some context to the kool, full-circle nature of the whole thing. If you’re just trying to buy the zine and not deal with clothes, I honestly recommend grabbing it from Upheaval Press. If they’re sold out, come back to the 8-side and hit REBEL8.com. We’re not set up to offer cheap media-mail-only shipping, so you’ll save yourself the hassle if you get it direct from them first.”
