JJ is the mind behind Cartoon Network / Adult Swim’s cult hit ‘KING STAR KING’ (2015-2023) for which he won the network’s first PrimeTime Emmy in animation, as well as JJ Villard’s Fairy Tales (2020), and Cartoon Network children’s short ‘Scaredy Cat’ (2025). JJ VILLARD BIOGRAPHY
JJ Villard is an Emmy Award winning creator who has brought his unique vision to projects at Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Disney, Dreamworks, Nickelodeon, Sony, Netflix. Known for his singular style, energy and dynamism, he is the mind behind Cartoon Network / Adult Swim’s cult hit ‘KING STAR KING’ (2015-2023) for which he won the network’s first PrimeTime Emmy in animation, as well as JJ Villard’s ‘Fairy Tales’ (2020), and upcoming Cartoon Network children’s short ‘Scaredy Cat’ (2025). After graduating from CalArts with a degree in Character animation, Villard began his professional career as a storyboard and visual development artist at Dreamworks Animation, where he worked on feature films including ‘Shrek 3′, ‘Shrek 4′, ‘Monsters v. Aliens’, ‘Sherman N Peabody’, ‘Trolls’, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem’ (2023) and ‘Spider-Verse 3 Beyond The Spider-Verse’. He enjoyed a three-year run as winner of the top prize for international collegiate animation at North America’s most prestigious film festival in Ottawa, Canada, and was a finalist for top student animation prizes at the Cannes Film Festival and the Student Academy Awards. Villard is also known for his fine arts, and has presented solo and group shows throughout the U.S. He is currently working at Dreamworks Feature Animation.
