STONE ISLAND THE CALM AND THE CHAOS

August 4, 2026 |

THE CALM AND THE CHAOS is a new creative project from Stone Island that explores the hardcore and metalcore scenes, some of contemporary culture’s most enduring independent communities.

Rather than documenting a musical genre, the project examines the values of authenticity, commitment and collective identity that have enabled the hardcore scene to remain culturally uncompromised across generations.

In doing so, it reflects the same spirit of continuous evolution and uncompromising integrity that has long defined Stone Island’s own culture of research. The relationship between music, identity and style has always been integral to Stone Island’s cultural universe.

Through THE CALM AND THE CHAOS, the brand continues its exploration of communities whose values resonate with its own philosophy of experimentation, authenticity and continual evolution.

The project traces the enduring dialogue between American and British hardcore scenes through the friendship and creative exchange between Justice Tripp of Trapped Under Ice and Angel Du$t, and Graham Sayle of High Vis, relationships that have shaped successive generations of the movement and continue today through artists including Isaac Hale of Knocked Loose and Austin Sparkman of Haywire 617.

For this project, photographer and director Isaac Lamb spent over six months travelling across Europe and North America immersing himself within the community to document hardcore in its various incarnations with bands including High Vis, Angel Du$t, Knocked Loose and Haywire 617, capturing not only the intensity of live performance but also the quieter moments between tours, rehearsals and everyday life. The resulting body of work explores the duality that gives the project its name: the calm and the chaos.

Rather than styling its subjects, the project reflects the way Stone Island has become part of the lived visual language of this community over decades. The musicians are photographed wearing a mix of current and vintage Stone Island garments selected from their own wardrobes alongside carefully sourced archival pieces, including a 1987 Tela Stella reversible jacket worn by Graham Sayle of High Vis, a 1984 treated denim chore jacket worn by Justice Tripp of Angel Du$t, and a 1991 Ice Camouflage bomber jacket worn by Tommy of Haywire.

These archival garments were provided by noted Stone Island collector Archie Maher. Alongside the studio photography and video campaign, the project culminates in an eponymous tour book, released in September 2027. Shot on 35mm film, its documentary approach captures performers and audiences with equal intimacy, preserving moments of intensity, vulnerability and camaraderie with the same honesty that characterises the music itself. Rather than celebrating performance alone, the publication reveals the human relationships that exist beyond the stage.

The project builds on Stone Island’s previous collaboration with the hardcore community, which featured Isaac Hale, guitarist of Knocked Loose, in the Autumn/Winter ’025–‘026 Community as a Form of Research project wearing Nylon REPS-TC Corrosion Treatment and Ripstop Light HT Nylon. In THE CALM AND THE CHAOS, this dialogue continues through a custom Stone Island vest, reinforcing an ongoing relationship with a community whose independent spirit and enduring authenticity closely reflect the brand’s own values.
