Rapper Racquel Jones’ incendiary ‘Sacrilege’

Rapper Racquel Jones’ incendiary ‘Sacrilege’
Salad Days

Racquel Jones wanted to get your thoughts on this absolutely vibrant, intense, and ruthless Jamaican rapper (artist/mode/live member of Thievery Corporation as well!).

She just released a wildly provocative new video ‘Sacrilege’ is about her belief that there is an inherent oppressive nature to Christianity for Black people in the US. She’s actually been running into monetization issues with YouTube due to the polarizing/provocative nature of her video denouncing religion as a force of oppression on Black people in the US. This of course has raised a whole new issue in Racquel‘s focus – regarding what is and isn’t censored by tech and social media companies.

What Racquel has to say about ‘Sacrilege’
’Sacrilege’ is a blatant denouncement of religion, specifically Catholicism and what it represents for Black people whose history was intercepted by slavery. For my people, religion/Christianity was used as a tool of oppression and control while the heritage of our spiritual identity was erased. It is important for me to begin the discussion about the damages that religion has done to us as a people through the programming of our ancestors during slavery and beyond; and the strides we need to take to heal, unlearn, relearn, correct and salvage what is left of our true identity and teach that to our kids. So we’ll begin by turning our bibles to 1 Peter 2:18 King James Version.”
