Philadelphia, PA band Kaonashi have shared the enraged and chaotic new single ‘Humiliation Ritual’.

Following the pop-leaning ‘Blood Red Camry Dance Party’ and heavy ‘I Hate the Sound Of Car Keys’ it’s the latest in a string of singles from the experimental band. On ‘Humiliation Ritual’ vocalist Peter Rono delivers a spoken word-esque performance over dense guitars and drums that encompass an unsettling feeling to match the lyrics. The song continues the cinematic story of ‘Lemon House High’, which started on their 2018 EP, ‘Why Did You Do It?’, and continued on 2021’s ‘Dear Lemon House, You Ruined Me: Senior Year’, following the story of Jamie B. Moore, Casey Diamond, Morgan Montgomery, and their supporting characters. Through the lyrics and video, we find Morgan in a tale of bullying and oppression. On creating the single, Rono states:

‘Humiliation Ritual’ reveals the origin behind Morgan Montgomery’s bully role in our story, while also touching on the topic of Black discrimination. It also stands out as one of our most unconventional songs because of how it was written. Pao, our drummer and Alex Hallquist our guitarist, completely improvised the music, tracking together live at the same time while watching each other through a studio window. After that, I recorded my vocals in one take to enhance the already chaotic feeling on the song. With such descriptive lyrics, we knew the video had to match that to give viewers the feeling Morgan felt.”

Kaonashi kick off the second leg of their U.S. tour supporting labelmates Hail The Sun, alongside Sweet Pill, Zeta, Tsosis, Glasslands. The band also has three east coast shows with From Autumn To Ashes in December. Full tour dates below.

Kaonashi is Peter Rono (Vocals), Ryan “Pao” Paolilli (Drums), Alex Hallquist (Guitar, Vocals), Sidney Williams (Guitar) Ryne Jones (Bass).
