PROCEEDS BENEFIT NATIVE AMERICAN YOUTH SUICIDE PREVENTION.

Austin, TX – September 2023 – The newest members of the Pirates Press Records family, Austin, TX’s Starving Wolves, have released their new single titled ‘Please Listen’. This track, which is their debut single on Pirates Press Records, will have all proceeds donated towards Apache Skateboards which benefits youth suicide prevention and awareness in on Native American reservations. Apache Skateboards raises funds to aid in its mission of youth suicide prevention, specifically on Native American reservations. Founded by Douglas Miles, builds skate parks on these reservations and provides young skaters with the resources necessary to grow in an environment that promotes positivity and individualism while also ensuring their safety.

Starving Wolves comments: “It’s important for us to release ‘Please Listen’ in the month of September to coincide with Suicide Prevention Month. Understandably, we often focus on the end result of suicide and not the cause. Many young people find themselves alone and without the resources or encouragement to express themselves while also lacking the ability to seek proper care. Through the art of expression, whether it be music, painting or skateboarding, many of our youth find community, spiritual healing and individualism. We feel these are the things that help us reach out when in need and give us the strength to carry on!”

‘Please Listen’ is a song that’s deeply personal to frontman David Rodriguez but a theme that’s all-too-familiar in today’s landscape. “The lyrics came to me pretty quickly one Sunday morning. Verse one is the feeling of loss and hopelessness. Verse two is from the opposite side begging the other person to stay” he says.

The band then reached out to Oklahoma City-based tattoo artist Jay MF Roberts but with the intent for him to design something for a different single. However, Rodriguez was quickly struck by one of Roberts’ works inspired by the band’s music. “When his interpretation and emotion came out on paper with his art, I felt that it was connecting more to ‘Please Listen’Rodriguez explains. “This to me looks like the skeleton, “Death,” saying to try and live because life is short. Like Memento Mori (Latin for “remember you must die”).” All proceeds from ‘Please Listen’ through streaming revenue and downloads via Bandcamp will go directly towards Apache Skateboards. If you would like to make an additional donation, you can do so here.
