Tune in to all event activities at www.volcompipepro.com

Pipeline, Oahu, Hawaii (January 24th, 2013): The fourth annual Volcom Pipe Pro, an ASP 5-Star World Qualifying Series (WQS) event, is setting up for another exciting showdown at the Banzai Pipeline. The 2013 contest period is from January 27th to February 7th, and with less than a week to go, the 112 warriors are getting ready for battle at one of the most dangerous waves on the planet. They will be fighting for $130,000 USD in prize money and valuable ratings points to kick off the 2013 season.
This winter has already seen some big swell on the north shore, and looking at www.Surfline.com – the official forecaster of the 2013 Volcom Pipe Pro, we can see that there is still plenty of surf on the way. Watch the 2013 Volcom Pipe Pro teaser!

Be sure to check out the official Volcom Pipe Pro website which has been completely redesigned for 2013. Tune into www.volcompipepro.com to watch the live HD webcast of the event as well as get up to the minute results, warrior info, daily recaps, videos, photos and much more! iPhone and iPad users can also download the VolcoMobile iPhone App to watch the live webcast and stay up-to-date on the contest wherever you are. The Volcom Pipe Pro is an extra special event for the local Hawaiian competitors, being that it is a chance for non-World Tour surfers to gain entry into the prestigious Pipe Masters. The top eight Hawaiian competitors in the Volcom Pipe Pro will be rewarded with local seeds into the 2013 event, which is part of the Triple Crown series and wraps up the tour for the year.

Last year, the 2012 Volcom Pipe Pro ended with a spectacular showdown in the last 10-seconds of the 35-minute final with local Hawaiian John Florence taking the win with a buzzer-beating 9.93 Backdoor barrel. His last wave, together with his earlier perfect 10-point ride, put his combined heat score at 19.93 out of a possible 20 to edge out former Pipe Pro Champion Jamie O’Brien. This was the second consecutive year that Florence and O’Brien have taken the number 1 and 2 spots at the Volcom Pipe Pro. In line with Volcom’s New Future commitment, the event will again run according to the green guidelines that www.SustainableSurf.org and ASP North America have partnered on to help reduce the environmental impact of all contests. More information will be available on the New Future tab of the Volcom Pipe Pro website.
